I was told this place was pricey (true) and to expect a long wait between courses, but that part was untrue for us as we were there at 5 pm on a Wednesday in late September. We had phenomenal service and excellent food. Our group enjoyed the gumbo, strawberry rhubarb (cold) soup, salad cart, duck etoufee, scallops and Cajun catfish. My Cajun Mule cocktail was also outstanding, as was the Bananas Foster dessert, prepared at your table along with a recitation of its New Orleans origins. The ambiance was charming from the tiny bar throughout the cozy restaurant and beautiful deck. The only thing that would be better would be bigger portions so I could have leftovers. Note:reservations are required and they don’t answer the phone after they start serving at 5 p.m. The bar is open at 4:30 however, and serves up well crafted cocktails with a New Orleans flare.

This is by far the best restaurant in the Northwoods. The whole staff is amazing. The dining are is perfect. The bar. Perfect. Now lets talk about the food. I had the Duck Etouffee and lets say I may have had a tear in my eye. It was that good. Bananas Foster served tableside. Bread pudding is outrageously good. Call for reservations. This place is incredible.

Was in the “Northwoods” for 2 weeks and in week one, found this restaurant open on a Monday! So I sat at the bar and tested the drinks and their bar menu…the lovely bartender Rita (who I have since found out is the owner for 45 years) was so kind and attentive and I could feel that kindness between her and her staff….place was packed yet the staff was calm and in control. So during this experience is where I got hooked with the Gumbo and Blackened Chicken Sliders….after my good experience I started talked to people I met about this place and they said you really need to do the dinner most said the walleye and Lake Superior White Fish would be a good selection. I’m glad I did so as I had a phenomenal dinner experience with about a 1.5 time span that was great as it made me “slow” down and enjoy the meal and the view and the nice people. It only is open Memorial Day to end of October so I was grateful to have found this place in October before their winter shut-down. Thank You for the wonderful experience Blue Bayou!

Oh my… perhaps the best restaurant I’ve ever been to. It’s family run, and the service is a team effort. It’s a 2 hour experience… so many courses (soup, salad, seafood pate with bread) come with the entree. Appetizers are designed to share with the table–the Gator bites are great. I had the roast duck–if you want that, you need to put the request in with your reservation. Make your reservation 1 week+ in advance.

Every time I am at the cabin we visit! Been visiting since I can remember and they always have a chefs creation which we love! Love everything on their menu and their view is gorgeous. Love their staff have a mojito they grow their own mint and they are to die for! Also, their salad cart has the best bleu cheese I have ever had and it’s so fun choosing the ingredients. The Cajun Ramulade is the best also we always buy a bottle so we have some for Christmas with crackers or shrimp. They have a unique soup which is chilled Strawberry Rhubarb and we love ordering that every time since no where else have I seen this. Their cook book is amazing to purchase as well. This is a fancy restaurant so we always dress up and love it since we wear flannels and jeans all the time to keep the mosquitoes out. Hoping to have my reception there in 2025 to see Pam my friend and the best staff you will ever meet works there!!! Love love love the memories and the dining experience. Nothing is like this gem! Can’t wait to go in August!!! ❤️❤️❤️

Terrific dining experience with wonderful service. We made a reservation and although it was not particularly busy at that time, there was a steady fill up later on. There was a host, someone to take drink orders, explain the menu and specials, bring food, prepare salads. All were professional, knew their stuff and were well prepared.
The food was delicious. Included with entrees are seafood pate with hot bread, a soup (gumbo was dark and rich), table side salad. We also had alligator bites, Cajun sampler (fantastic blackened catfish – thick filled, beautifully cooked) and the blackened Lakefish. Everything was hot and fresh and prepared with care. Good choice of wines by the glass and bottle, Abita beers too. And don’t forget dessert (pecan tart was moist with a crisp shell). The view is onto Manitowosh Lake and there are outside tables and docks. This was an excellent dining experience. Highly recommended.

I loved this place. I enjoy all things cajun and creole. I’ll start by saying I hope to visit this place when there are no covid restrictions. You will absolutely need reservations. Penny is lovely to talk to on the phone and set up everything. They have a spectacular view and the location is great. The seafood pate and bread and crackers are good. They have a spread remoulade you get it has horseradish and is great. And the have great real butter. The soup was amazing I got the strawberry rhubarb cold soup. It was like drinking a strawberry rhubarb crumble. My wife hates cold food but loved this and will get it next time. She had chicken and wild rice and enjoyed it. The next course was a little salad. Had all your basic salad needs. Got cajun dressing it was good and non spicy which I would have been fine for more heat. Main course I got the sample platter. The catfish blackened was phenomenal. Crawfish etouffee I got half and half spicy/ creamy. The spicy totally had kid and creamy was great as a Ying Yang. And finally the jambalaya was to die for. Loved the cheese and sausage and everything packed inside it. My wife had blackened filet and she really enjoyed it. Another friend got blackened shrimp and while she enjoyed it she wished Gulf shrimp would have been larger. All in all its great place to visit and try a hurricane and sign up to get a free shirt. And be sure to get a dessert even if you gotta take it home from being so full.

If you’re looking for a relaxing, enjoyable dining experience, one that offers great food and a great venue, the Blue Bayou Inn is all that and more. Here, dining is a series of tasty courses. It started with a delicious cocktail prepared by Rita, the owner. Next up was the delicious seafood pate served with a bread and cracker basket. The salad cart arrived, where the server prepared custom salads topped with one of many available dressings. And then the main course. We had Blackened Whitefish (the special) and Steak Diane (see photos). Both were fantastic, and were served with wild rice. Rita’s son is the chef, and daughter the server. Dine here for a delicious meal, regardless of whether or not you think you like Cajun.

What an amazing food experience! I’ve always felt that truly memorable meals have a slow even pace and it should all make sense and flow together. This is a 2 hour minimum experience, but so worth it. Everything from the Cajun bloody all the way to the whiskey butter sauce bread pudding is beyond great! I tasted 4 of the entrees at our party of 6 and they were all stellar. You have to try this place. If you’re a tad skeptical of Cajun cuisine in the north woods of Wisconsin… Don’t be! I was born and raised in Louisiana and the flavors are all authentic. Everything was amazing!
