We had a 10/10 experience! My husband got the Leon Burger and I had the smothered chicken plus the coconut shrimp appetizer. It was some of the best food I can remember having. The chicken was so well seasoned and delicious. The fries were crispy and perfect! Burger was also great.

Really spacious and modern-styled restaurant in an old church. Saw the kitchen on the way in and it looked spotless; the restaurant was relatively clean too. Chips and salsa were delivered to our table promptly after seating, and said salsa was very good. It tasted almost like a cross between a marinara and a salsa and it was delicious.

I got the Steak Onyx and the WV Sandwich with chicken. The steak was very flavorful and juicy, especially when paired with the chimichurri sauce. The same was true with the accompanying shrimp. I got the mashed potatoes as a side and they were way better than they had any right to be. The sandwich and the bread it came on was a hit with me as well. They have plenty more unique menu options and I’m definitely looking forward to another visit, especially with the prices. I got all my food, plus my girlfriend’s food, for $56 without including tip. That’s crazy in this economy.

Edit:

As I said, I wanted to come back, and so I did. They revamped their menu and added so much more to try. I got the pastor sandwich and the chorizo tacos. Just as last time, both were pretty good and very reasonably priced.

We had a great lunch — sandwiches on homemade bread and cocktails. Free chips and salsa upon arrival. If you’re looking for something that isn’t a chain in a strip mall, this is a nice option. It’s on the lower floor of a converted church with an event space upstairs. Decor is somewhat modern with dark hues and interesting lighting. Excellent friendly service and quick food prep. Women’s restroom included a changing table stocked with disposable changing pads (furniture, not a fold-out unit). Easy parking. A few steps down into entrance with accessible ramp option as well.

Stopped here for lunch coming down from Pittsburgh. Jealous a place like this doesn’t exist near us. Really nice vibes inside, food was awesome, service top notch. Awesome hospitality.

When you see how diverse the menu is, you may be quick to think the food is probably average. That is not the case here. I went with a bacon cheeseburger which was very high quality. The seasoning in the burger, the cheese, the bun itself. All top notch. The chips (fries) were awesome as well. The wife went with Onyx fajita which she said was up there with any of the best Mexican restaurants.

Server was attentive and handled everything quickly and efficiently. Only regret we have is that it’s two hours away, but we may certainly make the drive from Morgantown next time we find ourselves there.

Food was good despite the fact that our server forgot to bring in our appetizer. It was fine since the portion size on the dishes was fairly large. The place is a good ambience and the food was good as well.

This place has great food, and great staff! Everyone is so nice. Waitress was perfect.

My only complaint is about the building itself. The restaurant is in the basement of Crystalline events (and it is a repurposed old church.) And the kitchen is also in the basement with the dining area.

The entire room smelled like an old basement with a hint of a grease fryer. I’m really sensitive to smells and it was really a turn off.

I would get takeout here but would pass on the dine in next time around.

1st time eating here. A little different at first from the outside as you can see it’s in a basement, but inside was very spacious and there were windows on the one side. Mimi was our server..she did a great job.
Ordered the sampler platter, steak fajitas and fried ice cream.
Fajita steak and salsa were very well seasoned and fresh, came with lettuce tomato and a drizzle of sour cream, rice and beans-no flavor. Sampler platter was ok but nice portions bone in wings, mozzarella sticks, quesadilla, queso/salsa/chips and poppers-not sure what it was in them. Menu is a little all over the place, spaghetti, burgers, and mexican style dishes but I didn’t see just regular tacos.
Overall I’d return.

The Onyx restaurant is a nice addition to the Fairmont dining scene. The location is convenient, the food is good, and the staff is helpful and kind. We had a nice early dinner here and the staff did their best to accommodate my gluten-free diet. I was disappointed they don’t serve any of the award-winning coffees from Onyx Coffee Lab, but maybe they can reach out to the fine folks in Arkansas and get it on their menu!

Clean eating area and bathroom. Drinks cold. Izzy is a great waitress. Food was good. We got the Phillys steak, the Leon pork tacos, the big burrito, and the street tacos. They have the best fries and their bloody marys are good.

Wonderful food and great staff. My only complaint is the a cheese dip is very expensive for just a little bit. Other than that we enjoy going here.
