I ordered $58 dollars worth of food this afternoon and I decided to go with a smaller, local place, in order to support the community. I could have gone to the nicer looking restaurant a few miles away but I gave this place a chance despite all the negative reviews. Well, there will be no second chance at this place for me. 1) The food was poorly packaged. They put everything except the rice into little plastic soup containers, so the heat caused the container to puff up and basically POP open and spill. 2) I ordered 4 containers of mulligatawny soup, What I got was some strange, thin, watery soup, that had whole peas, sliced lemons and little hard bits of this & that in it. I was picking this debris out of my mouth for an hour afterwards. Basically the soup tasted more like lemon water. I guess that was their way of hiding the taste of whatever that soup was really made with because it sure wasn’t lentils. Indian food and Asian food is my absolute favorite and I’ve eaten Mulligatawny soup from 18 different states and 5 countries, so I know what Mulligatawny soup is supposed to taste like. 3) I ordered Lamb curry and instead they gave us goat meat. A few pieces floating around in a pool of juice and curry gravy. The Garlic naan bread was herbed and nice. The chicken tikki masala was just okay. And with all the gravy they gave us instead of meat, they could have been a little generous with the rice, which was about 4 spoons of rice in an aluminum takeout container.
Don’t go to this place. It will make people who are new to Indian cuisine think that this is how Indian food is supposed to taste. Go the extra mile (literally), and drive someplace with better quality food, better service and a more accurate Indian menu.

Food was very good. First time i ever had Indian food. I will be going back. The restaurant is located in the Vassar college community. The host name was Mr. Abbas. Very nice gentleman who made the food suggestions. He is the owner and operator.

I came to Poughkeepsie for a couple of days from NYC. I asked a relative who is CIA graduate what place is good to eat around here and he actually recommended this place as having very good authentic Indian food and not too pricey.
I must agree that the food was delicious would give a 4.5 Stars if I could. The place is a little run down and could use some better Decor and music for ambience as there was minimal to none. I ordered the mixed grill Meats and the lamb masala as well as the garlic naan. (They were out of goat so I couldn’t get the goat masala.) The appetizer Meats were delicious but somewhat greasy as was the naan. The lamb Masala had excellent flavor although the lamb was slightly overcooked for my taste but I know other people who like it that way.
The service was quick and courteous and the food came out very fast.
I would definitely come back to this restaurant if I ever was in town again to try some of the other things as they have a fairly extensive menu.
I also saw a sign on the window that they serve halal food.

This is a nice place and some of the food is good but they have some problems there. One time my dad ordered from here and got some rice with the sauce and the rice wasn’t fully cooked. Another problem is their customer service. The man is nice, but his wife is so rude it’s unbelievable. The mans wife will not make your food correctly and won’t care about how she makes it and how you feel about it. One last problem they have is that the restaurant is so disgusting and dirty. It’s at the point were i had to wonder if they even clean this restaurant. I saw bugs flying around sometimes and dead bugs by the window seal or on the floor. There’s other good restaurants to go to. It’s worth the travel. Honestly i would rate this place a 0 star. This is not the best restaurant to go to. *DO NOT BRING KIDS HERE.*

Tried them a few times, food quality declined with every encounter. Placed a large order they forgot rice, samosas squished and came with out sauce, dough undercooked. Waited over an hour for the food with a hungry 3 year old, only to be disappointed! Called to complained and was questioned about if I truly received the rice and was told they ran out of sauce for the samosas. Not to mention they put the wrong apartment number on the order. What a waste of time and money. Will not order from them again!

Wow. Where do I begin? Incredibly rude owner. The order gets completely messed up, is packed poorly, and proceeds to spill all over the floor of my boyfriend’s car. When we call to complain and ask for a refund, the owner refuses and says something along the lines of “the meal you got was more expensive than the meal that you ordered, so I can’t refund you.” This is by far the worst customer service I’ve ever received at a dining establishment. Don’t waste your time; there are plenty of better Indian food restaurants out there where the service doesn’t absolutely suck.

I hate giving bad reviews but my experience wasn’t great. First google has the wrong number for the place and wrong location. I went to pick up my online order and didn’t check the bag as I left to get home and see I was missing the 2 pieces of naan I had ordered. The food itself was nothing to write home about either it wasn’t very flavorful and the chicken was dry. The only good thing was the spice level. Hope this was just an off day but by the looks of the other reviews it may not be..

I ordered from here today and we are so upset and disgusted. We ordered both our dishes mild. I understand that Indian food can be spicy, but I nearly had an asthma attack from how spicy the “mild” is. My girlfriend has a cilantro allergy which was made clear to them and nothing was labelled and she couldn’t eat because of this. The naan was obviously previously frozen, the rice tasted old and left out and the dessert we ordered which had a milk sauce was sour and spoiled. This was absolutely horrifying and appalling. Do NOT eat here!!! I wish I could hive 0 stars.

Taste of India? What a joke. Nothing Indian about the food except the names on the menu. Go to Red Hook Curry House and skip this overpriced junk. Underseasoned, bland food, and weak sauces. There are other places to go for Indian food. Travel. It’s worth it for good food. Two stars only because the order was accurate, and we didn’t get food poisoning. Otherwise, a hard pass.
