Absolutely delicious and tender burnt ends, worth the hype! Red beans and rice is spicy and flavorful. Seasoned fries are good too! We waited in a long line on a Friday around 2, and enjoyed every bite on the patio under the gas station roof . Spent about 70$ for two of us, including beers.

Overall my carry out meal was delicious from Joe’s but rather than the meat being the star of the show, it was actually the sides. I got a brisket and pork 2 meat dinner with sides of dirty rice and baked beans. The brisket was not super juicy and too thinly slice and the pork was so so. Often with the pork the bbq sauce is so good it doesn’t matter what the pork is like but honestly the sauce was just average.

The dirty rice and baked beans were packed full of flavor but the beans definitely stole the show. I also got the bread pudding that was a perfect solid but slightly soft consistency with a crispy crunch and a melt in your mouth interior.

Service is great, vibes are great inside, but the meat left something to be desired.

Cleanest and best little dive/gas station. lol. It barely a gas station anymore, but technically it is. Get you some stickers and don’t be afraid to try the “spicy” sauce it’s not going to ruin the meal. Also fry’s orders only come in one size and that’s huge. It has a southern man the red beans and rice was fairly on point. Unique delicious and they didn’t break any rules. And they have a few beers on tap too.

Built inside a working gas station and somehow ranked among America’s barbecue elite, this place proves that greatness does not require chandeliers, just serious smoke and a lot of patience in line. Founded in 1996 by championship pitmasters, it has become one of the most famous BBQ joints in Kansas City, a city that treats burnt ends like a protected national treasure.

The legendary Z Man sandwich deserves its own ZIP code. Slow smoked brisket, provolone, crispy onion rings and sauce stacked inside a Kaiser bun that holds on bravely. One bite and you understand why people queue outside a petrol station without complaining. Ribs are tender, pulled pork is juicy, and the burnt ends taste like they negotiated directly with the smoke gods.

Ambience is unapologetically functional. You order next to chips and soda fridges, then sit down with a tray heavy enough to qualify as strength training. No fine dining theatrics here, just meat, sauce and happiness.

Expect lines. Expect sauce on your fingers. Expect to briefly consider relocating to Kansas City for easier access.

Be prepared to wait. I went in on a Tuesday evening but still had a 30 minute wait. I didn’t need to sit down so ordered online for a to-go order.

I got the Z-man sandwich. Thinking it wasn’t going to fill me up, I also got the gumbo, fries, and banana pudding. I was wrong and the Z-man sandwich was enough. But the chicken gumbo and pudding were also really good. So now I’m writing this review super full

I smoke alot of meats at home on my Weber and me & my familylove it. It was my birthday and I decided since we had drove to KCMO, we’d try some ” World Famous” Joe’s BBQ. I spent $111.xx for 3 adults in a curb side pickup order. We picked at some of the sides and ate the order of fries (dipped in Joe’s BBQ sauce) on the way home. We were happy with it until we got home to eat our sandwiches. YUCK !! It tasted like the buns and pickles had been smoked! When I took a proper bite, I spit it out! Smoke so strong it tasted like creosote, like I licked the inside of the smoker! I won’t be back. Thanks but NO THANKS!!

This place is unique! It is a gas station ⛽️ but without a convenience or little store, it is a small restaurant! It’s very small kitchen but they keep up with all those customers! I ordered “two meat dinner with fries , it came with brisket and pulled pork with very little BBC sauce ” there is bottles of sauce on the table to add as you wish” . The brisket was smoked right and the fries were seasoned beautifully with salt and herbs . The meal as is was amazing then I finished it with the three pieces of Texas toast and the pickles that comes with it. Overall it was tasty, the cashiers were nice, the chefs were nice and the waitress also was nice. It has tables to fit as many but limited number of seats, I would say even if there is a line the place still worth the try.

Award winning BBQ, literally! Yes parking can be difficult, and with that usually means the line is out the door, but it’s so worth these minor inconveniences. From beef, to ribs, to chicken, and plenty of side options, they have it all. My go-tos are their famous Z-Man (sliced brisket sandwich topped with provolone, onion rings (I like getting mine on the side), and their signature sauce) or the Rocket Pig (Joe’s pulled pork tossed in a sweet-hot competition BBQ glaze, bacon, pepper jack cheese, and a BBQ mayo, topped with fried Jalapeños) paired with both an order of fries and onion rings which are generously portioned to share. The staff is always friendly and are quick to turn and burn as this place is always packed. Come hungry. Leave happy. This is definitely a must stop for anyone who loves BBQ!

Absolutely incredible!

This place is truly unbeatable. I visited Joe’s Kansas City BBQ during a trip, and on our very first evening we decided to check it out. There was about a 30-minute wait, which honestly made me even more curious to see what the hype was about.

WE ordered the beef brisket and the famous Z-Man sandwich, and wow—they were both insane! The meat had a deep, smoky flavor that soaked all the way through, and the texture was both tender and satisfyingly chewy. Every single bite of that brisket gave off this rich, smoky Kentucky-style flavor that felt so special.

We loved it so much that we decided to go back the next day. This time it was a Saturday, and the line was way longer—stretching from the front door all the way to the end of the building. It looked like it would take over an hour and a half to get in, so we decided to order online for pickup instead. We took our food to a nearby park for a little picnic, and it was perfect. That day we got the pork ribs and a one-meat plate. The ribs were packed with smoky flavor, perfectly moist, and just fell off the bone. They were amazing, but I have to admit—I’m still partial to their beef brisket. It’s just next-level.

One thing I really loved was the variety of sauces: the classic BBQ sauce, a spicier BBQ sauce, hot vinegar sauce, and even ketchup. Mixing and matching the sauces with different meats was half the fun. The staff here were all super friendly and energetic, which made the whole experience even better. The atmosphere felt lively, warm, and welcoming.

If I ever come back to Kansas City, Joe’s will absolutely be at the top of my list again. Highly, highly recommend!

Unique location in an old gas station!
We went right at their opening time at 10am and got seated right away. Highchairs are available.
You order at the counter and they will call your order once it’s ready, which was about 10 minutes. Everything tasted delicious and was really a great meal. Highly recommend!
