I am going to start this by saying I cannot recommend this restaurant, and we will not be returning.
From the moment we sat down and ordered appetizers, it took 30 minutes to receive just the apps. 40 minutes for the entrees. The one consistent person was the guy who filled the waters. That’s really it. Had to flag down our server to get boxes and to pay. She was clearly very overwhelmed. Overall, the food was pretty good, so if you’re willing to wait a long time, it might be worth it for you. For us, it’s not.
Sad experience overall. We LOVE the Queen Mary but unfortunately this part of our weekend stay fell far short.
Order the short rib and pair it with a glass of red wine-you won’t regret it. The short rib was so tender and well flavored, the mashed potatoes paired well with it. Literally my short rib fell apart at the stab of a fork-no knife needed, exactly what you want.
This restaurant has been the cherry on top of the stay for me so far.
We didn’t complain because it’s not our style. We just let it go. Probably won’t come back again, unless you just wanted to enjoy the views and have quick bite like a sandwich or something. Other food are not recommended.
My dad ended up getting two rounds of shrimp cocktail for the table and a burger for himself. I got a turkey club (which I forgot to take a picture of) with a side of garlic mashed potatoes. You can never go wrong with a turkey club—it was one full sandwich cut into two pieces instead of three or four, which I actually preferred. The garlic mashed potatoes weren’t very flavorful and were a bit dry. I ended up using a lot of salt on them. There was also a third order of chicken tenders with a side of fries. The fries were perfect, super crispy and soft.
Everything else overall was okay. The bartender, Mary, on the upper deck was very friendly, and we all enjoyed talking to her before grabbing food.
My wife had the California club sandwich. I had the fish and chips. Both dishes came with the sidewinder fries which are amazing. I also had the asparagus cream soup. I generally like cream soups, and I love asparagus, but I wasn’t so sure about the combination. It turned out to be delicious! The soup is warm, not cold.
Our evening started with unexpected costs. We had to pay for parking, and then pay a $15 per person entrance fee to access the ship before even getting to the restaurant. For our family, that was $45 just to walk in the door. While surprising, we decided to move forward because our daughter was excited about the experience of dining on the Queen Mary.
When we arrived at the restaurant, we waited about 15 minutes just to put our name down and were quoted an hour wait, which we understood given the holiday weekend. After waiting over an hour without receiving a call, I checked back with the hostess, who seemed to realize we had been overlooked and seated us immediately. There was no apology or explanation.
Once seated, it took another 15 minutes before anyone greeted us or offered drinks. We ordered appetizers and entrées and specifically asked that our daughter’s pasta be brought out as soon as it was ready. The server agreed. The appetizers arrived. Then the adult entrées arrived. Still no child’s meal. We had to flag someone down to ask about it. It eventually came out, but by that point we had already been waiting quite some time with a hungry child.
The food itself was mediocre at best. Nothing memorable, fairly bland.
The most concerning part of our experience happened later that night. In the middle of the night, my five-year-old became violently ill with vomiting and severe gastrointestinal distress that continued for hours. A few hours later, I experienced the exact same symptoms. We were the only two in our family who became sick, and the only food we shared that day was the buttered noodles.
I understand that foodborne illness can sometimes be difficult to trace with certainty, but the timing and shared dish are concerning. Proper food handling is critical, especially when serving children. The experience was not only physically awful but also heartbreaking as a parent to watch your child suffer.
We spent close to $200 between parking, entrance fees, and dinner for what was meant to be a special outing. Instead, it turned into one of the worst restaurant experiences we’ve ever had.
I sincerely hope this feedback is taken seriously and that food safety practices are reviewed to prevent this from happening to another family.
My mom and I shared some appetizers, and we enjoyed everything we had.
-ARTICHOKE DIP came with toasted bread slices and tortilla chip. Hot, creamy, and delicious! Love that it came with a lot of artichokes.
-SHRIMP COCKTAIL Large, plump, and sweet shrimp. I wish it came with 6 pieces instead of 4, but it was delicious!
-CLAM CHOWDER Not too watery, not too creamy, it was just right. Generous with the clams and bacon. Yum!
Great service, but I wished our server was more knowledgeable with the drinks because I had some questions he couldn’t answer. But he was easygoing and checked on us to make sure we were good.
Overall, it was a good experience and will dine in again!
