I’ve been here several times. When this restaurant first opened, it was a hit. The waiters and service were excellent, but it’s getting worse every day. The food stays fresh and good, but the waiters are getting worse. I think the owner or manager should pay more attention because the last two times I’ve been here, it seemed like the waiter was on some kind of drug. There was a very strange smell mixed with cigarette smoke, and that’s very unpleasant for those of us who come to eat. It’s not the first time I’ve noticed this; it’s happened two or three times now. I don’t know if they give their employees medical exams here, but it would be good if they paid more attention to their staff. The food is good; the margaritas aren’t the best, but they’re good. I’ve been coming here since they opened, and this is the first time I’ve made this kind of comment because I wouldn’t want them to go under. It’s a great place for the community. They can continue to be a success; they just need to pay a little more attention. 18/2/26

A friend asked me to meet her here for lunch… I wasn’t sure I had the right place! My GPS led me to a building with no sign that identified it as La Leona, but I went inside anyway hoping I was at the right place. Thankfully, I was.
The food was wonderful and the wait staff was very helpful. Well worth the drive from Rockford.
My only wish is that this wonderful restaurant had a sign identifying who they are.

Amazing stop in rural Illinois. Driving through from eastern Iowa to Chicago and wanted to grab dinner before we got to Chicago. What a wonderful find. Authentic Mexican food, great atmosphere and unbeatable service. The queso wasn’t too spicy and just the way my mother likes it. Superb experience and will stop again next time we are driving through!

La Leona is a small town jewel! The food is authentic and never disappoints. In my several visits I have always gotten a different entree and am now convinced that everything on the menu is superb. Today I had the Chile Verde, which was fantastic, with the option of corn or flour tortillas and pork flavored to perfection. The salsa and chips are wonderful, not to mention the refillable horchata . The portions are incredibly large and reasonably priced. If you’re not a big eater, prepare to take a box home to enjoy the flavorful leftovers later. The ambiance is cheery and the servers are very friendly. I would have to say that La Leona is my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Today was their opening day and La Leona in my opinion is exactly what my hometown of Winnebago needed. They are still waiting for their liquor license that will be established in a few weeks and for now they are cash only. The restaurant was clean, tidy, and very open feeling. Food was great and worth the wait, obviously their first day open is going to be very busy. Hugo our waiter and everyone else we came in contact with were extremely kind and hardworking. Our food was all delicious and authentic. Pricing was very affordable as well. We will definitely be back to try the margaritas when available and look forward to bringing friends. Overall our experience was great, can’t wait to return another evening. Thank you La Leona!

1st time visit today. Food was good, Margarita’s were good at a decent price. Nice change from the restaurants in Rockford. Large parking area. No sign on front, so look for the Funeral home, LaLeona is next door to the south.

Very nice place with excellent food. I had a burrito with chicken,steak rice and beans in it. The cheese sauce was served on side which was great. Although the chips were typical the salsa was excellent. Our server even asked if we wanted more. Great service he took care of us.

Family owned business . Try them out, I had the fajitas, very good. And don’t forget desert. Fried ice cream . Forgot the picture of the friend ice cream. Great prices .
