TO LIVE AND FRY IN L.A. In 2017, four childhood friends came up with a simple concept — take Nashville Hot Chicken and make it better than anyone else in America. With only a couple thousand dollars to their name, they boot-strapped a pop-up concept in a parking lot in East Hollywood serving a simple menu of tenders, sliders, fries, and kale slaw — they created a viral cult following with lines consistently over an hour long.

I was keeping an eye on this place as it was being built. Then today my wife and I decided to try it. We couldn’t be more happy with it. Not a overly complicated menu. Besides the chicken, they have some interesting shake options.
I went with the Dave’s 2 sliders and fries. While my wife went for the 2 tenders. They offered upcharges for cheese for the frys and Mac and cheese instead of the fries. Of course we did both. She got mild and I got medium.
I knew nothing of how they do their chicken, and I’m glad I didn’t check. Just an absolutely gorgeous dry rub and fried to perfection. The spices and herbs are out of this world. Just completely different from anything I’ve had before. The medium and mild were very distinct, but didn’t take away from the taste. The fries are your average crinkle cut with some nice flavors. The Mac was extremely good. Tasted like a touch of their rub spices. Very creamy and delicious.
The atmosphere was very appealing. Graffiti and bright colors. There was someone cleaning up right when people left. The bathrooms were spotless and not sketchy looking.
Over all, we will be back. The people taking the orders were very helpful and welcoming. Will definitely be recommending Dave’s to everyone!!
And thanks to Rowshan A. who just took our order for our second visit!!
EDIT: We cant stop ourselves from going there. I took my son tonight for dinner. He is now hooked on it!! I LOVE THIS PLACE!!
The chicken seasoning is exactly how hot chicken should taste, and the Dave’s sauce is absolutely to die for. Adding honey on top seals the deal; sweet, spicy, life-changing behavior. Even their fries are on point!
We ordered mild because we didn’t know what we were getting into with the spice level and honestly, we were very glad we did. We like spice, but we were also out shopping and this was a wise, responsible decision.
My son and husband ordered Dave’s #1 (two tenders with fries), and they couldn’t even finish it which is unheard of in this house. I had Dave’s #4 (one slider with fries), and let me be clear, that slider showed up like it had something to prove.
They take your order, hand you your receipt, and give you a buzzer so you wait like a hopeful contestant until it goes off and you’re called up to the counter to claim your prize.
Just a heads-up: the meals don’t include drinks, but they do come with fries, pickles, and their signature Dave’s sauce. All delicious and absolutely necessary for survival.
The interior is clean, friendly, and has a cool old-school graffiti vibe that makes you feel like you’re somewhere between a street mural and a very happy food coma. If you are an 80’s/90’s child, you will appreciate this theme; it takes you back down memory lane.
Bottom line: Popeyes, KFC, and Chick-fil-A officially have some serious competition. Come hungry. Leave full. Possibly need a nap and maybe plan your spice level around your errands
Tips aside when I asked for reaper I was told to sign and date what I thought was the receipt but was actually a waiver for how hot it is.
If you know how hot the Blazin sauce is at BWW, the reaper here is 3 times hotter. Its not just a sauce. They dust the chicken in chili powder.
Sandwich or as they call it “slider” was amazing. Worth the $8.
I just wont get the reaper ever again.
The 15 minute wait seemed long and them handing you a buzzer is awkward. Just call out numbers or use an APP. The buzzers are unsanitary.
I will return.
Macaroni and cheese and milkshakes are very good.
Hot Chicken – And if you’re looking for food that’s *actually* very spicy this is the place to go!
I have a stupid high spice tolerance (For reference, I add Tabasco to my hot wings and still think they are too mild), so it’s hard to find food that I actually consider nice and hot spicy.
Tried the chicken slider extra hot, good flavor with a bit of a kick.
Also got a reaper level chicken tender. And no joke it is very hot. I absolutely loved it! Only bit of criticism is all of the spice on the outside makes the breading dry, so I suggest adding some of the sauce to make it perfect. It is significantly hotter than the extra hot, and not for beginners.
Both of the chickens were juicy with crispy breading.
Employees were very friendly.
Restaurant was clean.
Suggestion to management: please put a coat hook up in the restroom.
