Wanted to order, waited in line 15 min for 5 people in front of me. Was first in line. Someone working at another restaurant (I believe Sun King) cut the line, brought wrapped up food in a white paper for the person making sandwiches behind the counter, dropped it off, and she started to make 2 sandwiches for him before taking my order. It took so long for the extra sandwich that I had to choose between missing my flight or waiting longer for the other airport employee who cut the line for 2 slowly made sandwiches, so I left the line after waiting 15 minutes for nothing. Looked like an off the books transaction. Saw the bad ratings but wanted to try anyway, as Shapiro’s was a long-time childhood treat for me. I’m dissatisfied that I only wasted my time and saw the employee prioritizing employees of other businesses ahead of customers waiting for flights to depart. Will probably never try Shapiro’s again, was really looking forward to it.

Was 2nd in line and almost didn’t have time to eat because the lady in front of me was throwing a big fit over the price openly saying to that she wanted the manager so she could try and get a deal. To my joy the manager was no nonsense and shut her down quick. “That’s our price and if you think your better off making it at home than make it at home” not just that but they were one of the few places left that accepted cash. Food was filling and held me on my flight.

After seeing a lot of negative reviews, I wanted to see if that was the case. To the contrary, I was met with several kind and considerate employees. Service was prompt and the sandwich was ready quickly. It was pricey, as airport food usually is, but it was a well-made chicken salad sandwich that made for a nice lunch. Would visit here again!

This was at the Indy airport, Nov 1, approximately 3:45.
The Reuben was really bad. The corned beef dry, not much sauerkraut or dressing. The worst was the bread was cut on an angle so the HARD crust was impossible to bite. I had to tear off that crust.
Ive had much better at a local greek restaurant!!

My dad, being from Indy, RAVES every time I’m in Indy to go to Shapiros. However, their mall location just is not great. My biggest issue with my sandwich was uneven mustard piles and then the sandwich itself had ZERO structural integrity. I’d have been better off eating it like a salad from a bowl as it fell apart pretty much right away (and yes I ate it pretty much right away after it was assembled in front of me).
UPDATE – The team behind Shapiro’s was very good about communicating this being incorrectly made, and did eventually offer a refund to correct this mistake. I raised my review from a 2 to 3 for their efforts and would love to try their Downtown location in the future.

Shapiros should be embarassed to have this location open. I should have read reviews first. The woman serving around 9am 5-10-24 was absolutely rude and so extremely slow.
The sandwich was horrible. Im not even sure the bacon was real. I threw most of it away. It wasnt good at all.
Horrible service. Horrible food. And obviously they dont care.

Got back to Indy airport from a trip and stopped at their airport location to pick up a reuben for lunch. When I got home and unwrapped it, it was the size of not quite their standard ‘downtown” location “half sandwich”. Plus all there was (keep in mind that I paid $25 just for the sandwich) was a few pieces of really dry (and I mean dry) slices of meat that tasted more like ham—no sauerkraut, no thousand island.
No more.

I had one of the rudest encounters with one of the workers. She was very accommodating to non African American consumers. When I stepped up, she just rang up my items, and walked away when she saw I was paying with tap. I needed a receipt for business purposes, she never came over until another customer got her attention. The African American worker that was working with her was more attentive by acknowledging my presence while leaving. If this is how your employees work, you need better training!

The tuna salad sandwich was actually delicious! The salad wasn’t just tuna and mayo, there were also pieces of celery and relish in there (and it seemed like maybe egg?) that added some flavour and texture. I had it with 1000 Island dressing which was great, and thankfully they didn’t slather the dressing on – just a light coating on the bread. Even though they loaded up the sandwich with filling, the slices of bread weren’t huge, so $14 was pretty expensive for a simple deli sandwich, although obviously you expect to overpay at an airport. The cashier here was super nice and made my morning with how cheerful she was. I also appreciated that they broke out the tuna salad for me at 10:27 when lunch technically starts at 10:30. The line moved pretty quickly too.

The corned beef sandwiches keep getting smaller and smaller. Corned beef is tough and stringy. Bread is stale. 21 dollars. Ridiculous. Nothing at all like the downtown location. Avoid at all costs
