A Gem in Biddeford Deserving Recognition
I have been to Sacred Profane a few times and they deserve a shout out for the experience they deliver consistently. They have a niche, do it extremely well and because they know who they are and they strive for excellence they can deliver without the intensity or seriousness that otherwise creates a bad vibe and feels transactional.

If you like a really good European lager that is certified in the U.S. by Czechoslovakia for doing it the right way, it’s nice to have the experience without leaving the country. Instead the country comes to you.

If you like European influenced food, it’s more than that. The kitchen is consistent in quality, presentation and balance of flavors, taste and textures so nothing overpowers but has a well rounded experience.

The staff are always warm and friendly no matter who is working that day and we have found their willingness to chat to create a warm friendly connection that is genuine and both of us appreciate the authentic interaction.

Lastly, on a cold winter day, we decided to head to their upstairs lounge to hang out with laptops and do some work while patronizing with a beer and some small bites. The atmosphere is always chill and comfortable in the large leather sofas, the greenery and friendliness of staff.

If this resonates with you, I would highly recommend visiting them so you to can be with good people who care about what they do, care about your experience with them but also deliver a great beer and food and sometimes a good conversation when appropriate.

Very interesting Czech style pub. The beers were very good and loved the interesting way they pour and foam. They have several shanty options and I tried the one with tequila, it was light and not overpowering, very good. Beers are served in pub style large mugs. Food overall was very tasty. Pretzel was warm and soft. Smash burger was absolutely delicious, juicy, melty and perfect. The sausage plate was good but didn’t feel like a complete meal. The sweet Kokach was a little disappointing. The filling was good but the pastry was dry. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. Overall I like this brewery and would return, the only negative is that the service was very slow and it was hard to get our server’s attention.

beer was great, food was tasty, taproom was really nice, but the service was subpar which unfortunately tainted my experience. not sure if it was because we had a few non-drinkers in the group and didn’t order a full meal or what, but we felt rushed out of there even with a half full beer and food still on the plate. it’s a shame considering the beer / food was great and probably would have ordered another if we hadn’t felt unwelcome.

We had a great time at Sacred Profane in Biddeford. The food was pretty good—highlights for us were the Rodeo Burger and the kielbasa with fries. The real standout, though, was the beer. Both the amber and the pale were excellent—crisp, flavorful, and well-crafted. The atmosphere is also worth noting: go on a nice day to enjoy the fresh open-air vibe downstairs, or come at night to check out the cozy lounge and beer hall upstairs. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area. The staff were also super nice.

Incredible food. The best beer in Maine (!!!). Yeah, I said it. Every other brewery around here is 99% IPAs, and no one actually likes those, they just pretend to because they think it makes them look cool. Lagers are where it’s at. And SP knows how to make a damn good lager. My standouts on the menu are: the smash burger, the pretzel, and the schnitzel.

Food really was subpar. Lots of salt in the food. The poutine was not really poutine. The porgies were very dough like and didn’t have that nice crisp outer shell. There was more sauerkraut than porgie on the plate. The smash burgers were good though. They should stick to more classic bar food. Honestly the beer was okay. They have a lot of tough competition around them that are better. They are truly trying to make an effort which is what matters. Very hipster vibe made for a younger crowd. Personally I might not go back. If I do it’s to give the beer another shot. The wait staff and management was super sweet and attentive which was greatly appreciated.

Very cool little Czech place off the beaten path. Their in house brews are great, and the menu has some authentic flavor, and a great set of options for a more refined palate. I’ve been there a few times now, and must say I do love this place. I likely wouldn’t bring my picky eaters here, since there seems to be an option for mustard, mayo, or sauerkraut on mostly everything.

What a neat spot in Biddeford! We held a small networking event for my organization in the upstairs space and ordered some food off the regular and catering menus, and all was fantastic. The kolaches and pierogies were perfectly cooked, delicious, and even looked amazing. Service was friendly and prompt, and the space is very nice and has great ambience. Thanks to Brienne and the Sacred Profane team for your hospitality – I definitely plan to return when I’m in the area again.

Came here for the Smashburger – easily one of the best I’ve had since moving from California. The lacy edges and simplicity made it exactly what you should be looking for in a Smashburger.

No bar to sit at and expect to be there a minute. But the beer is great also

Truly a hidden gem! Sacred Profane nails the trifecta of great beer, amazing food, and kind staff. It’s the only spot in the U.S. doing tank-pour lagers, where the beer is suspended from tanks and flows with gravity directly to the luger tap. They serve two types of lager beer AND have an extensive cocktail, wine and shandy list. The lobster roll with smoked trout roe, pierogis, and grilled cauliflower easily count among the best bar food we’ve ever had. The staff were so friendly and went out of their way to accommodate my weird allergy.

Pro Tips

– Ask about the tankpour setup—it’s worth learning about
– Plenty of parking in front
– Don’t miss the lobster roll
– Lots of seating inside, outside and upstairs!
