OMG! This place is a must go to if you have a cultured palate. We were looking to try something different and came across this. Worth the drive to Carson City and they also have a food truck that comes to Reno. When you walk in, it looks like a 50’s diner setting with booths and additional seating in the back. We were greeted by the friendly owner who was also the chef. The chef’s husband also came out and started serving. The dynamic duo were so friendly and conversant they made you feel like friends. For starters we ordered the tempura shrimp as well as the chicken and veggie pot stickers. For our entrees we ordered the chicken with lemon grass, shrimp with lemon grass and the pompano fish. They were served on wooden plates covered with banana leaves, totally eye-pleasing and refreshing presentation–felt like you were in a tropical island. Reminded me of when I visited my ancestral home in an island south of the Philippines where your food was placed on banana leaves laid out on the table. As for the food, we ordered them spicy. I’m a light weight when it comes to spicy, but tasted them anyway. The spicy lemon grass sauce that the chef put on the dishes was a blend of herbs and spices that made it really flavorful aside from having that kick to it. Husband said “this is what spicy should be, full of flavor, not the vinegar acid kind of spicy.” As for their yellow coconut rice, loved it. You can taste the hint of coconut, turmeric and maybe lemon grass or ginger? One thing the rice wasn’t was bland. I decided to order a non-spicy dish, which they have a selection of, the teriyaki beef with broccoli. I loved that they didn’t use the teriyaki sauce that was overly sweet and thick. The beef was seasoned well, not too salty, not too sweet. just how I like it. Their portions were decently sized for the cost that we had to take the rest home. We were so satisfied that we will definitely be back, or find out when their food truck comes to Reno and buy their food that way. Highly recommended!

Met the owners Barry and the star of the show his wife last night for dinner. Sweet, very friendly people. Never had Balinese food before in my travels, but boy are you in for a delicious surprise. Everything came out very quick, looked exactly like the menu and tasted amazing. I like spicy food and she hooks it up with the chili sauce on the side of asked. Doesn’t overpower anything, blends well and is very flavorful. They also have a food truck so be on the lookout for them at events. Included pictures of the food for reference.

This place need more recognition. The food was AMAZING. I’m Indonesian and it is hard to find an authentic indonesian food around here. Some other places that i have been to, their food are more americanized but Bali express did an amazing job of keeping their food authentic. Loved the owners too, Koming and Berry are very friendly and welcoming to their guests. I will definitely recommend this place to relatives.

Today at Bali Express in Carson City Barry greeted us and proudly promoted the food here. We ordered Sate Ayam with Mie Goreng Koming and Mie Goreng with Rendang, but don’t worry if you don’t know what that is…their interactive digital menu screen shows you beautiful pictures of every dish and what they are with customizable flavors and proteins and Barry is there to explain every dish to you!
Your order is served in a woven tray on a flat round of wood with a same size circle cut from a banana leaf. It was beautiful. The food is served hot. Not warm sitting under a heating lamp while you wait for your friends meal- no. As soon as it’s prepared by Koming, it’s served. The spice level is good. It is SO SUPER FLAVORFUL!
If you’ve never thought you wanted Balinese cuisine (Indonesian food), think again. You do. You’ll love it!

Super friendly owners, amazing food! $15 for such a big portion as well! This is the most flavorful food to me in all of Nevada. I have been coming to Bali Express every week since I tried out their food from their food truck 6 months ago.

Barry and his wife are always friendly and polite! I went to Bali few years ago and I had been looking for authentic Indonesian food ever since and finally found it !! This is as authentic as it gets! I would say it’s the best Indonesian/Balinese food I have ever tried my whole life and that’s why I kept coming back for more !!!!

We were driving through Carson City and I was looking for restaurants when I came across Bali Express. I was shocked to see they had a 4.9 rating, so I said, “We have to try this place.” I’m so glad we did. The staff was outstanding, ordering was easy, the Thai tea was amazing, and the food was incredible. Now I totally understand why they have a 4.9 rating!

Flavorful, authentic Indonesian/Balinese food in…..Carson City? Yes….in Carson City! Never been to Indonesia but I’ve been to plenty of Indonesian restaurants and this small restaurant next to a bowling alley ranks on the very top. They’ve been open less than a year but I am hoping they stay around forever because we need the flavor here. The food was very flavorful and although some of it was spicy, it wasn’t numbing spicy….the chili adds to the flavor, not burn yo mouth spicy so you can’t taste anything. The food was plated well and the portions were generous. Barry, the owner, was warm and very passionate about the food being served and I can see why. He has big plans to share the food with the world and I hope that he will get to achieve all of it because it means we will get to enjoy all of it! We will be back!

Cuisine in point! Everything we ordered was made to order. Delicious food, authentic and amazing. You can really taste all the love and layers of spices put in to each dish. This is our new favorite spot in Carson city!

Demolished half of it before I remembered to take a picture- great portion sizes. Absolutely deserves every 5 star review, everything is perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. We were just trying something new and i think my tastebuds third eye has been opened. I would consummate the marriage between this food and my mouth if i could.

Good vegetarian options and tofu is PERFECT. The chef is a goddess among men. I love you Ms. Chef

A very worthwhile find! Was recommended by our Motel to try. Glad we came and had the Indonesian food here. I must say I was expecting something more American, but was surprised by authentic Indonesian cuisine. The portion size was ridiculously large and enough to feed two people. We didn’t know, but it was so good we did not leave anything leftover. The spice was as expected and did not disappoint. The beef rendang was so tasty. The chicken sate with peanut sauce was amazing. I highly recommend this place. Being from San Francisco, I would have thought I could find more authentic Indonesian restaurants, but this place takes the cake.
