Superb local restaurant, arguably now the best in Derby. We’re really fortunate to have it within walking distance and now rarely head into town as the food and hospitality is so good. I did notice a recent poor review which in no way matches the excellent experience we have here. The dishes that the chef and his team create have excellent depth of flavour and consistency, not watery at all. The naan breads and indeed all the food from the tandoor is the best I’ve had at any Indian/Nepalese restaurant, local or distant. If you go by the huge majority of excellent reviews and ignore the suspect ones, you’ll be fine. The “Mustang” as it’s now affectionately known across all of our family is top-notch. Credit to the front-of-house guys too, very pleasant and helpful.

Mustang Masala is a fantastic Indian and Nepalese restaurant that truly stands out for its flavour, quality, and warm hospitality. From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed with friendly service and a relaxed, inviting atmosphere. The food is the real highlight. The dishes are rich in flavour, perfectly spiced, and beautifully presented. Service is attentive without being intrusive, and the staff are happy to make recommendations or adjust spice levels to suit your taste. Overall, Mustang Masala is an excellent choice for anyone looking to enjoy high-quality Indian and Nepalese food. Highly recommended — definitely worth a visit!

Saw these guys had plenty of rock solid Google customer reviews, so thought I’d give them a go for a change..

Dropped in early Tuesday evening – just after 5pm..

Friendly greeting from Ibi, their Manager. Decor tidy and attractive – everything very clean and tidy..

Good food and drink menu – plenty of choice but not too overwhelming.

Went for the Achari chicken with keema rice – took the option of making it madras hot. (Nice to get offered the option)

Was very tidily presented – flavour was spot on (well balanced, pleasantly hot but not at all unpalatable – just the right amount of pickle sharpness which a good Achari gives) – ingredient quality high, meat very tender and well marinated, generous portions – but not too overwhelming or wasteful.

Plates, cutlery and tablecloths all spotless.

Talking to Ibi, it’s clear they take price in what they do – their phone rang constantly whilst I was there with people ordering takeaways, confirming there’s many in the area making the most of a very good local business.

First impressions from first visit was very good – and will definitely get into the habit of going more regularly – as it’s a notch above anything else I’ve tried on north side of Derby and surrounding villages..

For intimate romantic meals for two, the open plan seating layout may not be what you’re looking for, but I’d honestly encourage anyone to give it a go – it strikes me as a rock solid place to get good food and attentive service at a very fair price.

Top work, team!!

Visiting the area for the weekend and we were unsure where to go. We found Mustang Masala on google and thought we’d give it a go. What a great choice, the staff were very friendly from the onset and we all tried something different and we all commented on how hot (temperature) and delicious the food was. If we are ever back in the area we will definitely go back. Thank you for making us feel welcome

We had a lovely dinner on Saturday night with my partners family. Food was delicious. This was the Christmas menu at £29.95 each. Lamb chops and onion bhaji to start, chicken makhani and fish massala as main with cheese and garlic nan. Would definitely recommend it. Staff were lovely.

Cannot fault this restaurant, been here so many times (eating in and takeaway) – the quality of food, service and overall experience – so lucky to have this round the corner. What a gem! Love our visits here!

The food was incredible, the staff were really friendly & we felt it was fairly good value. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience & we’ll definitely order from there again – it certainly lives up to the high standards set by the previous owners.
The taste of the food was very refined & had a lot of different flavours – I found myself wanting to lick the plate clean, it was that good!
The portion sizes felt a little smaller than we were used to, especially compared to the previous owners, but mainly on the rice & nann – it certainly didn’t feel like they skimped on the meat or fish in the mains though. In-fact, my wife commented that for a fish curry, you usually just get a few small flakes, whereas from here she had some very large chunks – very impressed.

I have visited the mustang masala with my family, and I loved it. The staff girl who took our order—her name is Rashimi—was very friendly and approachable. We had a very great time with tasty food. Thank you all for making our day memorable.

So saturday night is normally a take away night, however tonight we decided to venture round the corner and experience mustang masala baby first hand and check out the dining in experience with these guys.
This place is getting rave reviews from the locals and is fastly becoming known as the go to curry house in Derby and i can see why pal!
I went with the £30 per head xmas meal deal 3 course option and to be fair this was a decent offer. Started off with a couple of poppadoms each and a pickle tray consisting of mango, sweet onion and yoghurt and mint sauces.
As per usual the mango got mopped up 1st, then the onion was very tasty and stinky that was mopped up 2nd leaving abit of yoghurt and mint to go with the ode starter.
I opted for lamb chops as my starter and these were very nice although abit spicey for me and i had to ask for a glass of water to cool the mouth down and mop my brow!
Next up i went with the chicken korma with mushroom rice and a cheese nan!
It was devine pal let me tell ya, however i can never work out why the food dining in the restaurant always tastes better than if you have a takeaway from the same place
I just about managed to finish the lot then the 10 minute walk home consisted of clinching the ode bum cheeks together having eaten too much and getting myself on the bedrooms throne.
Special mention to the chefs for cooking such delightful curries and also all the staff who are really on it mopping up plates when finished and also asking if the food was ok, top workers massive kudos to you guys!
As Wilson Pickett and the B’52’s once sang, mustang masala my baby, guess you better slow your mustang down!
Keep up the fantastic work Mustang, Derby’s premier number 1 goto curry house
