Teasha Watkins is the first Black person to own a restaurant in Giles County. Watkins opened Silver & Salt on Main Street in Pearisburg in May.

It was okay, the food was decent. I have a few issues with this, it is clear that the restaurant had a low budget and just used what was left over from the previous restaurant. Don’t get me wrong! its nothing wrong with that, its just they could invest in better décor and furniture, I mean the chairs are taped in decorative duct tape. I cant imagine getting your hair stuck in that, Ouch! The menu is so small, there are only 3 things for order from. I suggest having a wide variety of options to choose from. Take this as constructive critic. This restaurant has potential, it just needs more food to choose from and better quality of décor.

They had 2 options of meat loaf or pork chops. My wife and I ordered one of each plate. Her sides were scalloped potatoes and green beans, mine were the potatoes and mac n cheese. They accidentally brought her mac n cheese instead of green beans but quickly corrected it and let her keep the mac.
I was brought my napkin wrapped silverware and when opened, found a children’s fork in it which had to be exchanged. Needless to say, the silverware was very poor quality and seemed to have been brought from homes rather than purchased for a new restaurant because they didn’t even match. Now let’s get to the food.
Keeping in mind we arrived there about 40 mins to closing, our dinner gets to the table quickly which I’m assuming that since it’s daily limited menus, was pre-made since early that morning. Her meatloaf appeared to be one slice but in fact it was 2 thin slices which were charred and needed to be cut with a knife. It had no flavor besides a charred taste which burned away any possible taste it might have had and the only good tasting thing about it was the sauce. This should have never even been served since it was apparently the last of their meatloaf and it was removed from the menu immediately after she was served. My 2 breaded pork chops were also dry and had no flavor other than the hot sauce I drowned it in. They were also thin and mostly breading. They had children as workers behind the counter that seemed to not be doing much work-wise. We go to pay and one of the children had to figure out the total on their phone calculator. The one who served us was however very pleasant but unfortunately that’s not quite enough to get me back for another visit.

The food is excellent, and everyone is so friendly! We have loved everything we’ve eaten here. The Mac and cheese is the best I’ve ever had, the catfish is amazing, and the hot dogs today were great too!

Nice people don’t get me wrong. And maybe it was because we came in hour before closing. Food just wasn’t all that. The greens had no flavor, potatoes tasted out of the box. Mac and Cheese was runny and chicken was cold and over sauced. BBQ sauce did have a good flavor there was just way to much.

Invitation in newspaper and Facebook to see ribbon cutting. Was there on time, was then told we could only watch from outside in pouring rain. We left I had no intention of ever returning but my husband wanted to give them another chance. No menus, no prices shown anywhere. They only cook one entree a day. 2 large chicken breast, 1 was very good the other very salty, sides were ok. Waitress was nice. Overall, disappointed.

The chicken was delicious when we went but the green beans had so much pepper in them my mouth was on fire my husband enjoyed because he loves spicy and the Mac and cheese was so sweet I could barely eat it it was creamy and had the right texture but literally tasted like they used sugar instead of salt.

This establishment is the hands down best place to eat in Giles county. The service was super fast and friendly and the price was well worth the massive portions. The food is the best southern soul food you can get in a 200 mile radius.
