Saw this restaurant in a TikTok video and had to try it. We tried the fried chicken dinner with mac and cheese, candied yams, and greens. The spice queen herself blessed us with her fabulous creation, THE tooty lemonade. Everything tasted so yummy. I was worried the fried chicken was going to be really greasy but it wasn’t at all, and it was perfectly fried hard just like I requested. The cornbread was NOT dry. The lemonade was the best, and she uses seasonal fruit! I also really enjoyed the soul food roll. The customer service was phenomenal. They really made us feel at home. The decor was also beautiful! Felt like royalty eating here.

When I say this FOOD was TOP TIER. Omg yesssssssss the juicy piece of fried chicken could stop eating it. The greens like my GRANNY cook. And don’t get me started on that Mac and cheese. But wait there’s more the peach drink was refreshing to drink. I will definitely come back. The order of this beautiful establishment is a gem. Im so grateful to have went in today and got the taste of real soul food. No food left behind

I order the vegan Mostaccioli. I’m not Keith Lee but it was a 10 out of 10. Even if you’re not vegan you would love it. Jazz was playing and set the mood to a good comfortable environment to sit down and eat. I sat down enjoyed my food and the jazz. She have it to where you can order yourself which is very easy and it do take Apple Pay if you wondering.

This was my first time visiting, and I will not be back.

1. No one is there to greet you, not welcoming at all.

2. Have to order at a kiosk, and the kiosk asked if you wanted to leave a tip.

3. I bought vegetarian chillie, had no seasoning, watered down, and the beans were just sitting in the bottom of the bowl, paid $14.

4. Had vegan mash potatoes, gravy was watery, full of salt to a point where it wasn’t edible, paid $5.

5. They placed your food in a pickup door from their side, and then you pull the metal door open from your side to get your food.

6. The had a sign that said no refunds .

So now, I have $20 worth that I can’t eat.

On top of all of this, I received the food in a busted bag.

The pictures of the chillie is after it had been sitting in the refrigerator overnight… Just terrible!!!

0 out of 10, do not recommend…

Me & my husband came all the way from north to try this restaurant & let’s just say before I give a review on the food the service and atmosphere was the best! Me and my husband decided to get the catfish dinner with side of canned yams and Mac & cheese. salmon croquettes with cabbage and rice. The lemonade was also so good. We got the fruity and th purple one. They always was nice and have us a side of they loaded mash potatoes that was also so good. I definitely will be telling others about this restaurant

I always come for the fried catfish and smothered cabbage. Today I had the chance to try the soul food roll with Mac and cheese, greens and sweet potatoes. It was delicious! Last bite with sweet potato was a sweet dessert.

I understand everyone’s experience is different, but I just wanted to take a moment to share mine. This past Sunday, I was in the mood for something new and different and I’m so glad I stumbled upon Spice Queen Vegan & Non-Vegan Soul Food during their grand opening.

This Black-owned establishment immediately caught my attention with its inviting decor, eye catching menu, and intimate, soulful vibe. You could feel the love in the space from the look and layout to the energy inside. One of the standout moments for me was when the owner personally stepped out from behind the cashier’s window to greet each guest and hand deliver orders a rare and genuine touch that made everyone feel seen and appreciated.

I was especially curious about the Cornish hen dinner, and I have to say, it was cooked to absolute perfection tender, flavorful, and satisfying. The sides were solid as well, and everything came out hot and fresh. I also tried one of their vegan burgers (which I originally got for someone else, but ended up eating myself), and I was so impressed that they used real vegan cheese. That’s a detail many places overlook, and as someone who is lactose intolerant, I appreciated it deeply.

Now, about the tea I’ll be honest, it wasn’t quite my thing. It was a little too sweet for my taste, giving more of a Kool-Aid feel than a traditional herbal vibe. But again, that’s personal preference and doesn’t take away from the overall quality and experience I had.

I left feeling proud, impressed, and hopeful for this business. It’s clear that Spice Queen was created with passion, intention, and community in mind. I will absolutely be back, and I’ll be spreading the word. Wishing them decades of success!

My husband and I are frequent customers of a new restaurant in Hazel Crest, called Spice Queen Vegan and Non-Vegan Soul Food. This restaurant is soooo needed in this community. High quality food with a menu that isn’t just fried fish and chicken and French fries.

This spot checks all the boxes, portion size for money – check. No pretty food with big food prices! All appetite friendly and FLAVORFUL!!! From the greens to the mac & cheese, to the salmon corquettes, to the cornbread dressing. Not one dish will steer you wrong. Chicken, fish, pork chops, Cornish hens, or the vegan specialities. A family favorite is the Soul Rolls- an eggroll with greens, mac & cheese, and candied yams. The Cornish hens is absolutely delicious! Gumbo Greens is another winner on the list. The other fabulous addition is the own will add a new dish to the menu every so often.

Do not slide past the drinks or peach cobbler!
