1. Miscalculation of tips- the restaurant is rather pricey but what’s really bad is that their tip calculator on the check is inaccurate and adds an extra two or three dollars on top of the 20%. We had a $98.85 bill including tax. 20% is 19.77,= $118.62. But the bill says it’s $121.75. basically the receipt just added an extra $3+ on top of the 20% and still called it 20% How this could possibly happen unless it had been coded in wrong deliberately or accidentally but this should be an automatic calculation. See the photograph of the bill.
2. Burger and fries was $21 except for during happy hour when it was $16. Take a look at the portions. It’s very expensive at any size but certainly with such a small burger and bun. See photograph.
3. The food took quite a while as we waited for the burgers. Probably more than 20 -25 minutes.
4. The interior is nice and service was nice except that it was slow, and some of the food was particularly good, particularly the bread. If it wasn’t for the three items above, this probably would have gotten 3 and 1/2 to 4 stars based only on the taste of the food and the aesthetics.
This may be fine for a lot of other people but for St. James, the price and the practices just really turned me off.
I will also say that the pairings by dish were a wonderful touch and much appreciated.
Our server had the perfect match between care of the table while also not being too present during our meal.
We will certainly be back.
I wish the service and food would have been just as good.
The server seemed confused on a lot of things, put our order in wrong, and left all of our dirty dishes on our table, all the way up until we left. That made the experience difficult, because we had no room and a one year old with quick hands!
The food could have been much better. The meat and cheese board had a bad ration, leaving us with meat and cheese, no more crackers – and the meat in cheese being good quality were too strong to eat without crackers. Our omlettes were a little raw in the middle as well as SUPER salty, and the potatoes were hardly done themselves.
We were celebrating a friends birthday, and I was sad that this is what she got. I now wish I would have made her brunch myself.
