Yakitame Bento & Katsu started in 2022 under the name Kiori Japanese Kitchen. Located in Morris Plains—including Morristown, Parsippany, and Hanover Township—we combine traditional Korean and Japanese cuisine. We are opening in Jersey City with a more diverse menu based on the existing Kiori Japanese Kitchen menu. The store’s name, Yakitame, combines the Japanese words “yaki,” meaning grilled, and “itame,” meaning stir-fried. For customers accustomed to the flavors of Korean and Japanese cuisine, we will serve the existing delicious taste; for those who have not tried it, we will offer a new, delicious taste that will keep you coming back for more.

I got to try the fish katsu and it really stood out: crispy on the outside, light and flaky inside. It tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. I’d definitely recommend stopping by if you’re craving a solid katsu spot.
The prices are fair and reasonable. For one ramen, one rice bowl, one bowl of edamame, and a specialty ‘corn’ coffee (tasted like egg-drop Vietnamese coffee) I paid a total of $38. The rice bowl is generous enough to include egg and radish with a small bowl of soup akin to miso (had a fishier taste). Both entrees filled us completely. Food was hands down perfect – I was in the mood for this style of food and it absolutely hit the spot.
The front/server was charming, polite, and welcoming. The restaurant is small and seating is limited. Bigger groups might want to call ahead (4+). I only saw two tables for two, a bench against the wall with four stools, and one table for four. Has a cozy but clean vibe.

I will be back.
I ordered a katsu dish, and it was exactly what I hoped for—crispy on the outside with a juicy, tender interior. The panko breading had a great crunch, and the katsu sauce added a nice sweet-savory flavor. Many of their meals come as bento boxes with rice and sides, which makes the portions feel generous and well balanced.
The menu also includes ramen, karaage, gyoza, and different rice bowls, so there are plenty of options if you want something beyond katsu.
Service was quick and friendly, and the prices felt reasonable for the amount of food you get. Overall, it’s a great neighborhood spot if you’re craving Japanese comfort food like crispy katsu or a hearty bento box. I’d definitely come back again.
This meal delivers exactly what you hope for in a satisfying bento experience. The grilled yakitame slices are tender and flavorful, layered over steamed rice with just the right amount of glaze. The fried egg adds richness, while the pickled radish offers a crisp, tangy contrast. The miso soup is light and comforting, with fresh green onion for a subtle lift. Paired with a chilled peach Mogu Mogu, it’s a well-balanced combination that feels both hearty and refreshing. Presentation is simple but inviting, making it a solid choice for a casual lunch or dinner.
The man at the front was super friendly and attentive, checking in often to make sure everything was just right. It’s clear they care about their customers and the food they serve. This place is awesome — I’d recommend it to anyone, and I’ll definitely be back soon!
