I got:
1 cappuccino / leche – very nice and smooth. 1 size. Would order again
1 Cuban Sandwich – good, one side is butter/oil basted and the other side is dry. Thinly sliced pork shoulder / butt and almost prosciutto style jamon (ham), also razor thin. It pairs well together. I brought hot peppers and added myself for some heat. Comes with pickles (thin) and swiss cheese.
1 Miami Sandwich – same as above except with thinly sliced turkey, lettuce, tomato and bacon. Also added chili flakes on this for some heat.
I can’t tell which I like better, but lean towards the Cuban since there is no lettuce to wilt. I only ate half of each.
Also they sell 4 different bottles of hot sauce for $7. Great souvenir or take home. Got the Havana Green.
I ordered the Cubano and Pan de Bistec. The bread is perfectly toasted, like a thin crispy shell. The Cubano’s ham and pork is nicely balanced by the mustard and pickles. The pan de bistec has soft with small crunchy bits throughout. Definitely recommend adding mojo, I really enjoyed the garlic and Verde.
Would definitely come back again!
But I got the famous pan con bistec. And their shtick is that it’s Cuban food but a level up. The beef was definitely not your normal thin sliced steak you’d get in a pan con bistec but more like high quality deli meat. The bread was fresh and delicious I think they use a Gouda cheese which was different and some type of aioli sauce. The croquettes looked and smelled delicious as did the hot chicharrones.
To summarize the food was very good but it didn’t taste like a typical pan con bistec. If you’re looking for authenticity this might not be your cup of tea. But if you’re looking for like a Cuban American fusion that emphasizes quality over authenticity then this is your spot.
We went to the Little Haiti location which was super sketchy and I don’t recommend going at night. We felt like we might get mugged. It’s a takeout window only. Lots of homeless, random people walking around, bars on windows, just bad neighborhood, etc. (1 star for atmosphere, 5 stars for food).
BUT THE SANDWICHES WERE SO GOOD. We also got the turkey sandwich which was heavenly. Fries were fresh & savory. Everything was incredible.
Sanguich is an absolutely must if you are in Miami!
