Best Mexican food for hundreds of miles—and my wife and I are a hard judge of that. We didn’t know it was Mexican when we went and were a little skeptical but the friendliness and the margaritas immediately won us over. It’s where the locals go and there are not many choices but it’s fantastic on its own and we’d eat here regularly if it was close to us. And, it’s dog friendly to boot. Couldn’t ask for more.

Had no clue this place would be this good. We walked in just out of curiosity. We even had dinner back at our camp site. But we couldn’t pass up the food.
This place had good food, good drinks and great service. We had some margaritas and shared an enormous tampiquena plate. And we had to follow it up with some fried ice cream. Tomorrow morning we definitely want to come for breakfast – chilaquiles!
Lots of places to sit. Pet friendly. And plenty of parking. Full service bar.

Great find on our trip to State Forest State Park. Loved the decor and the food was terrific. Chips and salsa were handmade and delicious. The Enm

May10,2025 – Our group came here again, as we had all enjoyed our meals last time. We were not disappointed!
The Smothered Al Pastor Burrito was awesome. Fresh made tortilla chips and pico digoyo was great. Some other meals came with house made potato chips. Service was very pleasant, a bit slower than other places due to everything being fresh made, so we didn’t mind at all. Definitely worth the wait.
If you’re coming this way, or just make it part of your route to stop in and enjoy fresh made food in a really comfortable place!!
We will definitely be back.

I’d highly recommend stopping into the Howling Coyote. Jessica and Kaia are very welcoming and the food is fresh and very tasty. The atmosphere is unique due to the absolutely beautiful wood bar and center fireplace. Try a Jalapeño Margarita and the smothered burrito and you will not be disappointed!

Kinda off the beaten path. Cozy, clean. Staff was short handed, so service was slow but they had a smile. Limited menu due to staff issues. We had the fajitas. They were delicious. The chips and salsa were excellent as well. We would have to try it a couple of more times before we could give a better review. 700 miles away

We stopped in here for lunch a few months ago and decided to host our wedding reception here before we even paid our bill. Jessica and the whole crew were amazing to work with and really helped to make the event special. Food is great, drinks are amazing, and the prices are right. Highly recommend stopping here on your way through Gould!

Great place. I’m not even one for Mexican cuisines but this place is the best. The staff is all nice and the atmosphere is great. Serving sizes are also great; got one plate of chicken enchiladas for me and my father and we hardly finished it. Would highly recommend.

Comida bien rica!! We loved our lunch at the Howling Coyote. The entire staff was absolutely charming. They were friendly and thoroughly focused on their guests having a great meal. The chips, salsa and bean dip set the stage for a stunning lunch of bistec ranchero. The delicious beef was cooked with tomato, onion, chili and love. Absolutely perfect!! The accompanying rice, beans and perfect French fries were equally delicious.
We also noted that the restaurant and restrooms were scrupulously clean and that they have a great sense of humor.

All we had were cheeseburgers and fries with a soda and the food was delicious. The building is much more interesting inside than out and all of it, including the restrooms, is well maintained.
