Of the two times I’ve been to Flores, neither left me with a good experience. At lunch there’s no wait, so good there, but the service here is extremely slow and the food is mediocre. This latest was because my group picked it. We had to flag our server down everytime we wanted to order appetizers, entrees, and even the check. It took over 20 mins just to order appetizers. Then over another 20 to even get the appetizers (chips and guac, come on that is so easy to prep). We were there over 50 mins before being able to order the entrees. Not once did our water pitcher get refilled and it was empty by the time the entrees came. Now on to the food, this is “Mexican inspired” because they don’t even use Spanish rice and the flavors are pretty bland for what you’re paying.

If you want a sit down meal with slow service, go ahead and try this place. If you want actual Mexican food, there are a ton in the area with over 4.5 stars that taste and are made so much better with lower prices.

Nicely decorated restaurant, located in the Hillsdale Mall, serving elevated Mexican food. Everything we had was well-cooked and beautifully presented. All three sauces with the chips were delicious, and complemented the margarita perfectly. Fast and friendly service. Great place to hang out with friends!

Updated – Visited on the Valentine’s Day. The server was pretty much messed up. They shuffled some orders with other tables. It was hard to find the server to order as well. Overall food expense was good.

Much better than expected by a their lower reviews! Now, this is one of my favorite places in town.
I was a little bit hesitant to go to this place because of lower reviews, but it turned out it was good
The service was very good, which wasn’t like the reviews, and the inside of the restaurant was surprisingly nice. Good vibes for families and couples and any occasion
My dog is also having a great time inside the restaurant; it is very dog-friendly!

The food was excellent, flavourful, and plated nicely. Our original server was incredibly attentive and catered to every need. Unfortunately, her shift was over halfway through our meal, and thenl new server was nowhere near as qualified.
My old fashioned was done nicely, and the cherries were very tasty!
The duck enchiladas, were very nice,
Fish tacos need a bit more seasoning
The crab tostadas were fresh and so good!
The civeche was perfect.
Chips and salsa are always a winner, but the guacamole was a huge miss.

All in all, a good experience.

Good food, good flavors, pricey and portions are not huge but it makes for a good meal. Tried four different tacos and the fish taco and the carne asada taco are the absolute winners here. Like, really, order those. Guac was also good but very small portion, with plenty of home made tortilla chips. Rating service as low as our server was a bit pushy to get us started with appetizers the moment we seated and she did not take well that we asked for a bit of time.

Flores San Mateo is a truly delightful spot that delivers fantastic, fresh Mexican flavors. We were thoroughly impressed with everything we tried, from the perfectly seasoned guacamole that was clearly made in-house, to the cheesy, comforting quesadilla and the generously loaded nachos. I especially appreciated the robust and flavorful veggie bowl, showing they have great options for everyone. Additionally, the non-alcoholic drink I ordered was expertly crafted and incredibly refreshing. It’s a wonderful, reliable restaurant for authentic and high-quality Mexican food.

Our group visited Flores San Mateo and it was a nice time. The food was better than my last visit but the service was on the slow side and they really weren’t able to accommodate our largee group. The billing was inconvenient and for an establishment they arranged their furniture for larger groups they should have a system that allows for separate checks. The atmosphere was good and I really enjoyed the chips.

Skip it even if you are curious. The host was the about the only good thing at this restaurant. $3 for chips and $10 for a little guacamole. No one checked on us until taking away our unfinished plates of subpar food — this is when they finally offered a chip refill. $16 for two sadly prepared, almost cold, small tacos and tiny condiment cup of beans. The tostadas were just as sad. The waitress didn’t fix the check like she said — I had to ask. The place wasn’t busy; not surprised at all.

Management’s sentiment doesn’t mean crap, so save it. lol

We got the chips and guac, salad, and tacos. All the meats were very well cooked and the ingredients were high quality. The chicken and beef were super tender. The house made tortillas were delicious. My favorite taco was the fish tacos and carne asada. The only downside is they were out of fish tacos and it was only 5pm. To drink I got the horchata cocktail. I got it because it was unique but I probably won’t order it again because I don’t love milk based cocktails for dinner. For dessert we had the churros which were delicious. The service was friendly and has really improved in terms of speed.

Flores San Mateo offers a vibrant ambiance and a menu that caters to a variety of tastes. I recently dined there and was impressed by the chicken enchiladas bathed in a flavorful curry sauce. The portion was generous, and the rice and bean side, while tasty, felt unnecessary. The fundido appetizer was decent, but the star of the show was definitely the churros. Light and crispy, they were the perfect ending to the meal, especially when dipped in the rich chocolate sauce. Overall, the pricing was reasonable, making Flores San Mateo a good option for a casual Mexican meal.
