Brasserie Historique – Maison des Têtes

Social Profile:

Brasserie Historique – La Maison des Têtes offers exactly what you’d hope for in a historic Colmar brasserie: a warm, polished atmosphere, attentive service, and solid Alsatian cuisine. It’s the kind of place that feels like a step back in time, but with all the comforts of a well-run restaurant.

The Dish: A Satisfying Classic

I went for the choucroute “8 garnitures”, and it delivered on all the essentials. The portion was generous, everything was well-prepared, and it hit that comforting, hearty note you crave from Alsatian fare. While it didn’t reach the “wow” heights of the very best choucroute I’ve tried, it was reliable, flavorful, and satisfying. So perfect if you’re after a taste of tradition.

The Atmosphere: Timeless and Inviting

The interior is rich with character, blending warm wood, historic details, and a refined yet relaxed vibe. It’s classy without being pretentious, making it ideal for both casual lunches and special evenings.

The Service: Polished and Welcoming

The staff were friendly and professional, ensuring the meal felt smooth and enjoyable from start to finish.

Great food and wine pairings. We’ve got snails, foie gras and choucroute. The latter was good but a very huge portion for us so we didn’t finish it, also note that meat are all-pork. Great service and beautiful, old interior.

The Fois gras is one of the most mediocre I tried in France. It’s not sourced from a high-quality supplier as it was lacking taste and flavor. The jam that was paired with the dish was not suitable, as it completely masked any flavour.

The snails were really good though, well served and definitely worth trying.

The fish pike quenelle was very good, you should enjoy it even if you’re not a big fish fan.

The chestnut gnocchis were awesome, earthy and very intriguing taste. Highly recommend it, I think it was the most authentic dish for this area.

The roast pork loin has indeed an intense taste of pork, but it was well served and it’s a good dish. I recommend it if you love pork.

From the small cheese plate, avoid the smelly one, it’s really not for everyone and if you don’t know what you’re doing, it might spoil your experience. Bargkass (the yellow one) was my favorite, it stands out easily being rich in flavor.

I enjoyed the chocolate soufflé as well, because it was not so sweet and the chocolate taste was quite intense.

Service is good, although it could be better. Feels like they’re a bit understaffed, but not significantly even when restaurant is full.

All in all, it’s not a tourist trap as many say in the reviews. I don’t think it’s an appropriate place for NYE or such events, but rather a very good place to have lunch at.

One of the top restaurants in Colmar. Excellent prix fixe menu for lunch in a historic, rustic setting. Worthy of its Michelin Plate designation now that chef Girardin has gotten his hands on it and improved the offerings.

In the midst of touristy busy Colmar in Alsace, there is an oasis of tranquility and casual class called Brasserie Historique. A superb menue with Alsacian specialties like wonderfull Foie Gras or Sauerkraut with various meats and sausages or a whole kidney prepared in one piece – how it should be done. Equally satisfying are raw fish appetisers from best local and ocean sources and mouthwatering fish, pork and beef main dishes on a allaround compelling menue. Attentative service from a young team and a really intriguing wine list with many Alsacian and French gems make for an all around pleasent and relaxing meal either in the wonderful garden like atrium outside or the superbly furnished Brasserie inside. Very reasonable prices make this place even more attractive. A must go restaurant if you are in the area. A one Michelin star restaurant belongs to the group as well, as does an upscale Relais & Chateau Hotel.

The restaurant setting is beautiful, nevertheless both the food execution and service did not meet my expectations. For a place of this category they could do better, in particular when the cuisine of that region is excellent. What I liked a lot was the local wine selection and the recommendation!

Good afternoon, fois gras and rib eye steak very good, opposite matjes tartar was not yummy at all and fish very poor. Taste of matjes tartar strange taste of mixed moustard, potatoes and fish. Fish in lobster sauce, fish didnt have any taste and taste was saved by sauce , which was unfortunatelly ovesalted. Tartar is not possible recommend at all.

It’s our first time to try out Michelin restaurant because we would like to share the experience with our parents who were here for a trip in Europe.

It’s really a good experience despite it’s a super hot day. We’re definitely happy to be able to chill in the classical restaurant with warm service.

I would say the dining experience is good and unexpectedly we were stunned with the served assorted cheese with nuts and grapes. I think I had fallen in love with Époisses. The taste is really unforgettable.

Thanks again for the mesmerizing experience.
