El Burro Picante was established in March of 2013. The spicy donkey or el burro picante imbues the imagery of Sancho Panza riding his donkey in the famous novel Don Quixote. The spicy comes from the burst of Cali personality in our Mexican food! At El Burro Picante, salsas are made daily. As well as our Mexican drinks: horchata, and agua fresca. Plus, chips and guacamole are hand-made. Ingredients are fresh with no freezed-food and we select local produce and beef whenever possible. We are vegan-friendly with falafel options. Enjoy our ambiance with Day of the Dead inspired artwork, Latino music, and a huge sauce collection to spice up your Mexican food!
Tacos, burritos, nachos & other Mexican basics prepared in modest counter-serve digs.

Really amazing spicy fried chicken sandwich. It comes dusted with habanero powder which you can ask for more of if you like. I enjoyed eating very spicy things and did not find the default dusting that spicy.
It’s a lot like the Popeye’s Chicken sandwich but much much bigger and better with two chicken breast pieces placed on one delicious bun.
Also I had no idea this place made some of the best fries I’ve had in recent memory.
I got the burrito bowl with el pastor and yum yum yum!! Its fast, they’re pretty friendly, and they have amazing Mexican soda with a ton of diff flavors. Theres always enough places to sit even when theres a line because a lot of people take their food for takeout. It’s also one of the cheapest places to get lunch for the huge amount of food they give you.
I stopped by and had the carne asada…it came with chips and all the condiments you needed. Carne asada was good-wish it had a bit more flavor, but the price can’t be beat in the Bay Area.
