I went to Otaru once, and immediately came back the same week—and honestly, that alone says everything. From the moment you walk in, the ambiance is stunning. The lighting is perfectly curated, creating an intimate yet lively atmosphere that makes the entire dining experience feel elevated and special.

The service was exceptional across the board. Every sushi chef was welcoming and attentive, and I’d especially like to thank Chef Jun, who truly made the night unforgettable. His warmth, attention to detail, and genuine passion for his craft added such a personal touch to the experience. I’d also like to give a special thank you to our server, Chris, whose informative and entertaining service made the experience even better. He walked us through the menu with great insight, offered thoughtful recommendations, and kept the night engaging from start to finish.
The servers were equally amazing—extremely attentive, knowledgeable, and always checking in at just the right moments.

As for the food, the quality was simply unmatched compared to any sushi restaurant I’ve been to in Dallas. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor.

Some must-order items include:
– the salmon truffle ponzu
– black cod nigiri
– salmon nigiri
– hotate (scallop) nigiri
– yellowtail with asian pear
– brussels sprouts
– a5 wagyu uni handroll
– ube ice cream
– matcha mojito mocktail

Visited Feb 2026.

I have never been to Japan , however I tried this place with some friends who recently visited.

They noted that this is close to Japanese levels of quality and service.

Standouts:
Snow Crab Uni Butter Nigiri … fantastic
A-Set 24 Piece Sashimi chefs choice …fantastic
Wagyu A5 Nigiri … fantastic

These were our faves, but everything was delicious.

If someone were to ask me in person what I thought of Otaru, I would try not to recommend this restaurant … but this is only because I want to keep it a secret for myself.

Price is a bit above average, however it is well worth it. Our bill was expensive because we literally couldn’t stop eating.

It will be hard not to default to Otaru when craving sushi in Dallas.

The staff was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. The restaurant is very approachable and I liked that it offered a variety of items so we could try a little bit of everything. We had a fantastic time and enjoyed every piece we had from the truffle salmon sashimi to the toro topped with caviar, fresh truffle and gold flakes.

Delicious sushi. Really good service, one of the chefs mixed up our orders but the restaurant made it right, quickly making our order and giving us free dessert. The place is small but can easily walk in a weekday. A great experience watching them make the sushi in front of u
