1- finding Halal turkey, which is rarely available or clearly certified, and
2- hearing from friends (and reading online) that people often enjoy the stuffing more than the turkey itself!
3- we couldn’t have more spicy food!
Last year, I discovered that this restaurant offers Halal turkey, but by the time we went, we learned it had to be ordered about two weeks in advance. This year, we finally planned ahead, placed our order, and today we picked up our turkey for the very first time.
It was absolutely amazing.
The aroma was incredible the moment we opened the box. The taste was even better than the smell—juicy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The stuffing and the dressing sauce were outstanding and complemented the turkey beautifully. Everything was seasoned with so much care; you can really feel the chef’s pride in their work.
For anyone who is hesitant about turkey—whether because of flavor, dryness, or Halal concerns—I strongly recommend trying the turkey from this chef. It completely changed my opinion of what turkey can be. Truly wonderful in every way. Happy Thanks giving 😉
Seasoning is on point, flavorful yet not too savory.
Please keep in mind that this is a small shop so the wait time for food can be up to 20 mins. Very cozy and welcoming ambience, no problem for us chatting – My friend and I enjoyed it so much.
The Chef/Owner is very friendly. Thank you!
I ordered the paratha—my favorite item of the night—along with garlic naan and chicken karahi. The flavors were rich and comforting, though I do wish the chicken karahi had been a bit less oily.
The guy at the register was so sweet and kind and offered me a free mango lassi—it was creamy, refreshing, and clearly homemade. A hidden gem for anyone craving authentic, home-style Pakistani food. I’ll definitely be coming back.
10/10 no notes.
We ordered palak gosht (A traditional Pakistani dish with spinach and goat meat), goat karahi, daal (lentils) and naan. Everything was so good. It is really hard to choose which one was the best! My personal favorite was karahi.
Looking forward to going there again and try rest at the menu.
Highly recommend, please do try.
I stumbled upon Desilicious, a Pakistani restaurant across from the Federal Building in Downtown Oakland, while searching for Indian food around 2 PM (most places I knew were closed). I ordered my favorite “Indian” dish, and it was so delicious that I went back the very next day to try some of their Pakistani specialties. And let me tell you, I’m so glad I discovered this place!
The amount of food you get for $33.50 (before tip) is not that much. The Bay has plenty of equally good Pakistani and more broadly South Asian restaurants where the value is better. Perhaps this place is paying premium rent to capture the downtown lunch crowd.
Also, points off for interior. There was an upstairs space I didn’t check out, which may be better, but I ate near the entrance. Very bland, almost non-existent decor. For this money, I’d expect a superior experience.
The food is solid, you won’t regret coming here. Just know you can get more bang for your buck elsewhere.
It’s a newly opened restaurant in the downtown Oakland area. Easy to find and parking is great. The restaurant isn’t that big. They have an upstairs area they rent out for small parties.
The drinks are superb- mango Lassi was one of the best I’ve had- BUT they made a green minty mocktail that was unique and ABSOLUTELY delicious! Their menu offers a wide variety. we were with a big group- so we ordered a little of everything- , lamb, goat, chicken, masala, biryani , naan of course, and paneer.
We met the owner she was very nice- you can tell from talking with her she’s passionate about cooking and these are her recipes- every dish we ordered was infused with so much flavor it was amazing- it’s hard to rate a new place 10/10 but it really was.
If you’re in the area- you gotta stop by this place- service is great and quick- and best part is prices are very reasonable considering the quality of food.
I will definitely be returning!!!
The two of us ordered the desi chop lamb masala, chicken tikka, briyani, paratha and seasonal vegetables, which I asked for it to be only cauliflower. The order taker/server suggested we go upstairs and wait for the food.
We sat and waited for 15 minutes upstairs in a sparely decorated but clean space. We could hear them cooking away downstairs. When the food arrived, we were surprised at the quantity! The plate of chicken and lamb were more than what you get in a restaurant. They also served us yogurt and tamarind along with what we ordered.
Everything was delicious! It tasted so fresh so it was worth the wait. The meats were tender and I loved my cauliflower. There was so much food that we ate it for dinner the next day.
Honestly, I’m so happy to have found this place because we have been going to SF for our Pakistani food kick. The prices were great and the service was super kind and gentle. The only thing we found weird was the water that they served. It tasted like it had chlorine or something odd in it.
We will definitely be back for the food!
