Reviews
Grecia D was our host, and she was absolutely amazing, attentive, knowledgeable, and perfectly paced throughout the meal. Her service truly elevated the experience.
We ordered the following items:
Crab Donuts – crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and packed with flavor
Tuna Crudo – unbelievably fresh, clean, and vibrant; easily one of the highlights of the night
Hokkaido Scallops – beautifully cooked, tender, and delicate
Grilled Baja Prawns – flavorful, juicy, and perfectly grilled
Roasted Snap Peas – fresh, bright, and a great complement to the seafood
Monterey Bay Calamari – tender, light, and very well executed. We definitely loved the end result and presentation.
To finish, we enjoyed a decaf coffee alongside desserts:
Basque Cheesecake – rich, creamy, and indulgent
Blueberry Flan – light, smooth, and a perfect sweet ending
Every dish was fresh, thoughtfully prepared, and beautifully presented and overall it makes Augustine, a fantastic addition to Santana Row.
Highly recommend!!!
Our guests had a wonderful time and felt genuinely taken care of, which made the night even more special. The staff anticipated needs before we even had to ask, and their professionalism and warmth made the evening unforgettable. Thank you, Augustine, for helping create such a memorable milestone celebration!
The atmosphere is stylish and modern, and the service was warm, attentive, and very professional. Overall, a fantastic dining experience. Highly recommended!
Augustine in San Jose’s Santana Row is a destination that truly delivers on the plate. The food was absolutely delicious. Every dish we tried felt thoughtfully prepared, with flavors that were bold, balanced, and memorable. From the appetizers to the mains, the kitchen is clearly operating at a high level, making it a great choice for foodies who prioritize taste above all else. If you are looking for a meal that hits all the right notes in terms of gastronomy, the food quality here makes the visit worth it.
High Price Points vs. Service Expectations
While the culinary side of the experience was a hit, the value proposition is a bit more complicated. The prices were kind of high, which is somewhat expected for the Santana Row area, but those prices usually come with a certain expectation of premium service. Unfortunately, the service was just meh. It wasn’t necessarily terrible, but it lacked the polish, warmth, and attentiveness you would expect when you are paying top-tier prices. For a restaurant of this caliber, you want to feel taken care of, and the middle-of-the-road service we received created a bit of a disconnect between the bill and the overall experience.
Atmosphere and Vibe at Santana Row
Being located in Santana Row, Augustine benefits from a fantastic, upscale atmosphere. It’s a great spot for people-watching and enjoying the vibrant energy of San Jose’s premier shopping and dining destination.
Great for Foodies: The menu offers sophisticated options that are perfect for a special dinner where the meal is the main event.
Service Gaps: We noticed long gaps between check-ins, and the staff didn’t seem as engaged or knowledgeable as you’d hope for at this price point.
Vibrant Setting: The decor and seating are stylish, making it a visually pleasing place to dine, even if the hospitality doesn’t quite match the aesthetic yet.
Final Verdict: Worth It for the Flavors
I am giving Augustine 4 stars. Even though the service was underwhelming, the superb food quality carries the experience. It isn’t a “bad” experience by any stretch, but there is definitely room for the front-of-house team to improve their timing and engagement to match the excellence coming out of the kitchen. If you don’t mind a bit of a wait or “meh” service in exchange for a fantastic meal, then Augustine is absolutely worth the trip. Just go in with managed expectations regarding the staff, and you’ll have a great time focusing on the delicious food.
The service is truly five-star. Every detail is thought of, from the warm greeting at the door to the seamless attention throughout the meal. You don’t feel rushed, just genuinely cared for.
The brunch menu is equally impressive—fresh, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. Every dish feels crafted, not just made. Think avocado toast elevated to art, perfectly poached eggs, decadent pastries, and cocktails that look as good as they taste.
This isn’t your casual weekend spot—it’s an experience. Whether you’re celebrating, impressing out-of-town friends, or simply want to treat yourself, this restaurant raises the bar for brunch in Silicon Valley. It’s the kind of place where you sip a mimosa and forget you’re in San Jose—suddenly, you’re on Rodeo Drive.
