My wife and I were out on the town and wanted to visit a new place for dinner. We came across Van Horn steakhouse and decided to try it. We were very pleased with the service. Brittany, our server, was very helpful in explaining the different types of meats and cuts and how they prepare before it hits the grill. She was attentive and recommended some dishes that did not disappoint. The food was delicious. The cheese cake was absolutely amazing. We really enjoyed the ambiance and will definitely be back. We highly recommend it and if you go, ask for Brittany to be your server.

Wow, what a wonderful steakhouse! We went for a buddy’s birthday celebration and decided to experiment a bit. We did the porterhouse and then did a filet and ny strip separately all medium rare just to see how everything cooks differently. I will tell you that VHs NY strip cooked medium rare is one of the best steaks I’ve had in Austin. It needed nothing added or subtracted in any way. The sauces they offer were amazing on the porterhouse and filet. Highly recommend the chimichurri and horseradish. The asparagus was cooked exactly how I like it, still has a bite but is covered in a nice char. Onion rings were great .. crispy, juicy, no oil ooze

Small place. Big impression.
I’m very picky about restaurants and food—and this one surprised me in the best way. The space is small, but the welcome and service are exceptional from start to finish, especially Kendall’s great suggestion.
The Dover sole fish was perfectly seasoned (balanced, not heavy). The steak tartare was excellent, better than the presentation. The bacon appetizer with sauce was great. Must try the creamy spinach! It’s exactly what I wanted!! I hesitated to order the French fries—they’re a different shape—but wow, they were excellent.
Homemade tiramisu melts in your mouth, and the espresso martini is dangerously delicious.
Happy Hour tip: Steak tartare, prime rib sandwiches, and martinis for $10—absolutely worth it.
I will definitely be back.

We came in on a Tuesday late afternoon so the restaurant was very quiet. Jeremy was fantastic. He was professional and friendly and offered insights on the food. Thank you Jeremy. All three of us had the New York strip. I had mine with au poivre sauce and hubby and son has theirs with chimichurri. We shared some whipped potatos (so yummy) and some grilled asparagus. The sides were delicious and the steaks were perfect. We will definitely be back on our next trip here.

I rarely give a restaurant 5 stars but Van Horns deserves it!!
– Oysters: we ate them before I had the chance to take a pic! They were amazing, super fresh. Their cocktail sauce was excellent as well.
– Tuna Carpaccio: it was very fresh but it needed a pinch of salt. The creamy avocado and heart of palm was great!
– Steak tartare: it was excellent! Covered in Parmesan cheese but very fresh and well seasoned
– Bone in rib eye: perfection!! Cooked to temp and seasoned very well!
– Mac & Cheese: delicious
– Chocolate lava cake: great finish for the meal

Perfect spot to gather with friends and family Downtown♥️
We started with classic New York cocktails , the most amazing starters, including their thick slab bacon with their housemade steak sauce. Then of course, we got the Dry Aged Porterhouse from Pat LaFrieda, considered the gold standard of dry aging on the East Coast♥️the best of both worlds with a fillet on one side and a T-bone on the other. The sides, including my favorite, the perfectly breaded onion rings, complemented the steak superbly! The perfect ending was the best New York cheesecake I’ve ever had in my life, and it’s flown straight from New York City!
My friends and I had such a great time! Andy was our server, and was so engaging and funny. The service was impeccable, and our glasses never stayed unfilled. I highly recommend this new spot in Austin!
*Pro Tips ♥️
– we were able to book in on a Monday, usually it’s not too busy on the weekdays.
– the books are filling up fast, so make your reservation today if you want to dine during the holidays
– currently there is no valet provided, but we were able to park at the City Hall garage, which is just across the street.
– also they take walk-ins at the bar, but it’s first come first serve basis

Me and my mom went on christmas eve for dinner and it was an amazing experience! We ordered caviar (divine! not fishy – salty and buttery !). We also got oysters which were amazing & from the east coast! (same with the steaks). We also got the ribeye which had an amazing salty crust and decadent fat to it. We paired it with the german potatoes and cesar salad (which was one of the best i’ve had). Our server was Jeremy & we adored him! He was very kind and attentive Would 100% recommend Van Horns. As someone who moved to austin from NY, this feels like a taste of home, from the decor to the food to the service – just a great experience. My mom and I always try a new restaurant every christmas eve so it’s thrilling that it didn’t disappoint! Thank you!!!!

Joined some girlfriends for dinner on Vanhorn’s lovely patio (in November, what a treat). we were prompt greeted by Tony and. He was helpful throughout the evening with attentive service. They were out of a few wines, but he was diligent in finding a Pinot Noir for us to drink. I wasn’t in the mood for steak since I had a large lunch earlier in the day. I decided to try the vegetarian entree which was trumpet mushrooms on a fontina fondue. So creamy and delicious! The mushrooms were very meaty and satisfying. My friend tried the burger which she said was very rich and tasty. My other friend tried the miso fish and enjoyed her portion as well. On the pricier side, but to be expected for a Downtown steakhouse. I look forward to visiting again and trying more of the menu.

We had a fantastic meal at VanHorn’s this evening. From the service to the food, everything was truly top-notch. We sampled a bit of everything-from the whipped ricotta and oysters Rockefeller to martinis, a margarita, and a whiskey sour. Dinner was incredible: the porterhouse steak, off-menu Brussels sprouts, mashed potatoes, and the must-have creamed spinach, all finished with cheesecake for dessert. Highly recommend checking it out-everything was delicious, and we can’t wait to go back!

First time in Texas let alone Vanhorns
Our server Alexis was amazing! So attentive and kind. We loved her and everything! Every dish was to die for. Everything cooked to perfection. We got the cheesecake at the end and omg I could’ve kissed the chef at that point. Chelsea came in before I could though, she was lovely and came by to make sure our meal was amazing. She did amazing.
