My family decided to have some food at the hotel. We didn’t realize the more you pay, the less you get. The standard (steak) set menu had portions 2 or even 3 times bigger than the other sets. Sometimes, the portions even felt microscopic.
Also, the experience with the staff was not great to say the least. We got the cold-shoulder from some and a lot of the service was relatively slow.
The atmosphere otherwise was good, pretty calm and better than every other part of our dinner.
Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this as a go to restaurant in Hakone.

Highly recommended if you’re staying at the Odakyu Yamano Hotel. Yes it’s a French restaurant in Japan but the food quality is superb. That’s for both breakfast and the dinner menu set. The staff is friendly, very accommodating and highly attentive. The dinner menu changes daily and offers a surprise with every item.

We had a 6-course French dinner by Chef Kiyotoshi Yusa. Vert Bois also had a pretty extensive list of wines to choose from – both by the bottle or in 1-3 glass sets. Service was great and food was really good.

Nice view and a good old fashioned hotel restaurant. Not as good as those French restaurants in Tokyo, but still enjoyable.

We dined here with our kids during our stay at the hotel. Reservations are a must bc they close early.
The menu is very limited… we had 3 set menu to choose from for adults and 2 for kids. We tried 2 different menus… the cheaper one and more expensive one and both were good overall, but I liked the mains much more than the appetizers. the appetizers are very sophisticated but the flavors aren’t always great. The fish and steak are very nicely cooked. The menus are pricy even when compared to other premium restaurants in Japan but this is a pricy hotel overall and you do end up getting a lot of food m.
Our kids enjoyed the kids menu, especially the steak and the hamburger.
The service is good overall but I would expect more attentive service levels given the price levels and refined nature of the restaurant.
Definitely worth a try if you’re staying at the restaurant.

Bread is included, and soup and coffee are optional.
The portion is relatively small, which might be just right for a woman.
A one-plate meal of salad and pork.
I wish the bread had come a little earlier, but…I wonder if there’s a charge for extra bread? I didn’t ask.
The course meal has an extra dish, so that might be better.

This French restaurant is located inside a mountain hotel on the shores of Lake Ashi in Hakone.
You can see Lake Ashi from the terrace and windows.
We went here for breakfast. The menu includes French toast, sunny side up, and scrambled eggs.
We were able to enter the restaurant as soon as it opened and were able to get a seat, so we were able to enjoy a leisurely breakfast. However, be aware that if you arrive a little later you may have to wait in line.
