I loved this food so much!! I came here after my freshman orientation at UH and got the dark mixed fried rice and pan fried chicken dumplings. They were so delicious omg the fried rice was perfectly cooked and the dumplings were so hot and juciy and the sauce that came with it was perfect. I think however I would try the pork dumplings instead since to me the chicken ones were a bit plain for my liking. Overall a great place to eat and I will be coming here more often!!

Food is always so good, so hot, so fresh, and in such big portion. The people in the front are also pretty sweet but i just wish there was inside seating

Edit: added pork Bao and house special
Small place; one person in the front taking orders and the kitchen on the back. Got dark special fried rice. I’d give the portion 4/5 but the flavor 3/5. It’s okay at best.
Tried the pork Bao. Texture and flavor 4/5. Only thing I don’t like is that the air pocket in the bao is too much. Dough is springy with good pullback after pressing. Pork has decent flavor.
House special fried rice texture is 4/5 and flavor 5/5. Sauce is sweet, tangy, and a hint of umami. Lightly spicy and juicy chicken. Exterior is lightly crispy. Egg rolls are also delicious.
My friend had the Hunan Chicken and he said it’s a bit more spicier
Overall 4/5. Would I go back with family/friends? Yes if they recommend it. A bit pricey though.

Hands down best food on campus, cheap, good portions, always friendly staff, and just all around amazing.

Came here with my husband to get some dinner before a Rockets game. The food was alright but in my opinion a little overpriced and we waited a long time for our food to come out. There isn’t seating in the restaurant so you have to take your food to-go. I got the egg drop and the chicken lo mein. The egg drop soup was pretty good but the lo mein had a lot of oil. My husband got the orange chicken and said it was okay but the sauce was artificial tasting.

Lunar New Year 2024: It’s the Year of the Dragon so I decided to get a L5 Lo mein plate for a family member and veggie dumplings for me. It looks like it will be a bountiful year because the Flying Dumpling was very generous with the portions that day .
December 2023: Immediately called and headed to the Flying Dumpling once I learned they were opened; ordered the special lo mein and vegetable dumplings. Photo provided and both dishes were delicious. Ordered the special lo mein the NEXT day for a family member and tried the V5 vegetables with Tofu dish w/steamed rice. Photo provided and the dish was pretty good (none left!) with lots of tofu.
July 2023: Accompanied person who wanted to go to The Flying Dumpling. Photos show the shrimp fried rice and special lo mein purchased; both were served hot and were freshly prepared. The rice was good and Mom really
enjoyed the lo mein.
May 2023: Ordered the chicken mixed vegetables and shrimp fried rice. Both orders were prepared well, and the person that ate the shrimp fried rice enjoyed it. The chicken mixed vegetables was in a different to go container; portion not quite as large as the shrimp fried rice but it did taste very good. Steamed pork dumplings were ordered- will comment once I try them (will probably fry them first!).
Pictures provide an idea of how fresh the food was, and will hopefully get you to place an order to try the Flying Dumpling.
First visit: Bought specialty lo mein for a family member while I selected chicken and mixed vegetables. The food tasted very good and they give you enough meat for two servings! Although I’m nostalgic for the former Chinese restaurant that has closed near UH (Chinese Star), I am glad that this restaurant’s namesake has very good dumplings. The sauce I had at home with them was better though . Enjoy the photos and give The Flying Dumpling a chance to earn your patronage.

The food is very good. Definitely a Takeout, fast food joint. Only 6 chairs inside so you can wait for your order. Food is cooked to order so expect up to 20 minute wait. The name suggests dumplings abound but in retrospect, they take up a very small section of the menu. They are delicious though so be sure to try them and the crab rangoons. They do have 1 picnic table outside in the parking lot, but only 6 adults can fit on it. Enjoy the food, call in your order so you have no wait and find a place to relax and enjoy it! Bon Appetit!

The young female cashier was incredibly rude. She kept looking at me like I was dumb. I could barely hear her since she wouldn’t speak up, so I got confused about what she was asking. I still apologized — not because I did anything wrong, but because I try to show some grace to people working in customer service (not that they’d actually mess with the food, but still). Turns out it wasn’t just me — other customers seemed confused too. One girl even asked where the menu was, and the cashier rolled her eyes and said, “All around.” Yeah… she sucks, honestly.

The General Tso chicken and pork egg roll were great. The fried rice and wonton soup were good. I spent about $15 and it was more food than I could eat, so I’m saving half for lunch tomorrow. Great value!! I went for the bao on my lunch break, but the counter person told me it takes 20 minutes for bao and 10 minutes for everything else. So I changed my order. I’m very glad he was clear with me on that so I wouldn’t be late getting back to work. My food was ready in about 5 minutes. There’s outdoor tables only. There are chairs inside where you can wait for your order. Next time, I’m calling in ahead of time so I can scoop up some bao and head straight back to work.
