We decided to come back and try their dinner after having not a very good experience during their lunch. We ordered the filet mignon and grilled salmon teriyaki. These items did not come with anything so you have to order rice or soup separately. The steak was not medium as ordered. The eel roll was just ok. The salmon was overcooked and dry. Their Jasmin rice was great though. Service was not good even though they weren’t busy. The food is overpriced for what you get. There are so many other good Japanese restaurants in the OC. This one is not the list.

Their food is average. Service is awful. I went there on a Tuesday evening with my husband and kids. No one was coming to bring a menu for so long until we finally called on someone to bring it. They brought the sushi and other dishes for rest of family except mine. They tried to wait for me so we eat together, then had me get some sushi from their plates. All dishes are almost empty and then I asked for my food. The woman went to kitchen and then said few more minutes and then she was so rude saying we had a big table and that’s why this happened. I’m hundred percent sure they had forgot about it, and this woman from the beginning was providing a terrible service and now lying to my face so rude without any apologies. I canceled that food as I didn’t want to eat alone. She gave the bill to someone else to bring to our table. The other guy at least apologized. Wasa is a pricy place, but having this terrible of service it’s not worth to eat there. The only fact is that they don’t have much competition around them, otherwise for sure a lot of their customer will eat somewhere else! That’s the picture of the table that how other plates are mostly empty while I’m still waiting for my food!!!

No comments on the service, our waitress was very accommodating and professional.

For food, the Albacore appetizer with the crispy onion topping was an absolute smash hit for the evening, as well as the Crispy Rock roll. They both disappeared faster than I could chew. The sashimi we ordered, in addition to having beautiful plating, was absolutely fresh and delicious. The salmon sashimi in particular just melted on the tongue like butter.

Last but certainly not least, it’s not every day that I dine at a Japanese restaurant with a memorable Sake selection. While sake is available at most sushi restaurants these days, after a while you tend to see the same two or three options over and over again. To have an extensive list of various sake options, as well as their house and seasonal sake options was a breath of fresh air.

I used to really like Wasa because it’s close to my office and the $4 hand-roll lunch special is affordable and filling. But the service is so slow that it’s just not worth coming anymore.

I’ve brought around 20 coworkers and friends here over time, and almost every visit has had the same issues.

One day I came with a group of eight coworkers, and they put us in a back room and basically forgot about us. It took 40 minutes for ONE roll to come out! And our lunch ended up being close to 2 hours!!

They even misplaced my credit card and had to go search for it in the back, on top of already being late back to the office, they took 10 minutes to locate my card so I was very VERY late!!

Another time, I went with six coworkers for lunch on a day when the restaurant wasn’t even busy. We still ended up with almost a two hour lunch, again they lost our card, charged us for an extra roll we didn’t order, and barely checked on us, we had to constantly ask for plates, napkins, water refills. They would walk past us and ignore. Very frustrating.

If you’re advertising a lunch special to businesspeople (who only have 30 minutes to 1 hour for lunch), the service needs to be quick. That’s the whole point.

It’s had been months since I had eaten at Wasa since I was so annoyed about the long wait and losing our cards but, today I decided to give them another go and I have decided I am not spending my money here again.

Today I came in with one friend and we ordered takeout lunch. It took almost 30 minutes to get six hand rolls, even with 4 people working behind the sushi bar. The restaurant was not very busy either! And when the order was finally ready, they forgot to bring the bags over!!

The food is good, but the service is consistently slow and disorganized. I won’t be coming back or recommending this place anymore.

Word of Advice: DO NOT come here at lunch!

10/10 would visit again for Wasa’s service, ambiance, taste and presentation of dishes. Had a nice set meal teppanyaki with Chef David. The staff was very personable and all the dishes presented tasted great. Would highly recommend the seafood appetizers and definitely attend a teppanyaki dinner when here.

This is my new favorite sushi bar in Orange County. The staff is extremely friendly. I like to,sit at the sushi bar. I get to see the fish up close. I like to read the specials off the board. Everything is extremely fresh and beautifully served. They also have a full bar in the event you want to come a little earlier and enjoy a cocktail.

Stopped by because our friend and sushi chef Yuta invited us over. Great place, friendly staff, and delicious food. Grabbed a few drinks and sushi rolls and it all came out fantastic. Met the owner Bronnie and he was very friendly. Will stop by again when I am back in town.

Updated for 2023… still may favorite spot neat UC Irvine…

Solid sushi experience near UCI. Every sushi piece was fresh and tasty. One had caviar and another had some spicy chili crisps. I would come back for lunch any day. Make sure to order the sushi treasure with Wasabi sour cream. Best thing on the menu.

This place has very good sushi. It’s always fresh and the presentation is very good. The sushi chefs are top notch and the servers are friendly. After coming to this place a lot they already know what we like to order and will just start bringing out the sushi. If you have a bigger group for lunch you can ask to be seated in the dinning room area.

Honestly a disappointing experience. The staff were helpful and attentive, but they could not make up for the food. While I did order some sashimi that was a bit off, but passable, the centerpiece of disappointment was the chicken teriyaki. The chicken was cooked well, but by far the dominant flavor of the dish was pepper. This tastes ( and looks ) like something I’d do at home in my oven. There was almost no teriyaki flavor at all, just black pepper everywhere. I struggled to complete the meal.
