The burnt end were not your usual burnt ends, they were part of the flat, not fatty like you get with the point. Smoked Wings were crispy, and full of flavor!
What truly surprised us were their house made BBQ sauces, which came in three variations… A sweet and zesty, a sweet and spicy, and one of the most delicious takes on the Alabama white sauce I think I’ve ever had!!
Last but not least was their famous “Hot Mess Fries”!!! Cheese, smokey brisket with BBQ, and bacon! They were absolutely awesome!!
Don’t miss this place if you are passing through Pleasant Hill!!
The only criticism of the food I had was on the Pulled Pork Nachos – the ratio was off, it was more ‘coleslaw’ then ‘pulled pork’ – But they were cheap and yummy all the same. No biggie.
Sad they were out of the ribs and burned ends, all the more reason to come back again 😉
While the food was wonderful, there were a few negatives. They are only open Thursday – Sunday A few more days a week would be great! The lack of sustainable practices was the biggest negative. Instead of reusable plates and silverware, all food is served in boxes and then styrofoam plates and plastic ware is provided. The plastic ware is in plastic wrapped packages. Instead of fountain drinks, everything came in bottles. Overall, our lunch resulted in a lot of plastic waste. Long BBQ gets 5 stars for taste, but they need to work on their waste.
Worth the drive.
Let’s cover the good:
-The hot mess fries were actually delicious and reasonably priced
-The white Mac and cheese was pretty good.
Now on to the bad:
-service was not great, had to hunt down my own barbecue sauce
-Got the burnt end box for $15 and was expecting more than a meager 7 pieces of meat that were incredibly tough. Worst burnt ends I’ve ever had.
-They seemed to be out of everything. Out of rolls. Out of regular Mac and cheese. I kept hearing them telling other customers “oh sorry we’re all out”
-cinnamon roll was so hard it could have penetrated Clark Kent’s Superman skin. I imagine if it was melted down and recast it would make a stronger shield than captain America’s.
-severely overpriced per portion. Food came out and I asked my wife ‘what do you want for dinner after this’
I don’t mean to be harsh but incredibly horrendous dining experiences tend to stick with you and I just had to warn others – please – do not waste money or a hearty appetite on this joint.
I tried a LOT of items here and they were ALL great. The brisket and ribs were my favorite. The ribs are done to competition perfection. The brisket is done perfectly and is amazing.
They make their own sauce and it’s a home run as well. I would say, if you are in the area, Stop in and try this place, But it’s worth a drive even if you are not in the area.
