We tried the jerk chicken plate and the chicken curry roti for our first visit and loved them both. The jerk chicken was the clear winner for us though – perfect blend of warming spices on a flawlessly tender chicken quarter (dark meat), coupled with rice and a nice veggie blend – heaven itself! The rice was also incredibly flavorful – and I LOVED the roasted plantains – a perfect accompaniment! Absolutely would get again.
The chicken curry roti was great too – tender white meat chicken in a savory stewed curry sauce with some more of those yummy marinated veggies. It was delicious but wasn’t a typical curry flavor that you get in the area – definitely unique and authentic to the Caribbean style of dishes. It’s a bit more spicy than I’m used to but I loved it. My only complaint was the texture of the roti bread – again it wasn’t the style you typically see out here in SoCal. It was more coarse and very flaky – almost like a thick homemade tortilla as opposed to a pita style bread. It had a nice flavor overall but I wasn’t a fan of the texture. But that’s totally a personal preference and I would absolutely get the curry again – but I’d get it with the rice plate and I think that would be perfect.
A very friendly man eating next to me while I waited had a delectable looking dish as well – he said it was their saturday special of chicken stew and it looked AMAZING! He said it was his favorite dish here and goes out of his way to come get it. So I’ll definitely be seeking that out next time I visit!
The staff were insanely friendly – so warm and welcoming and excited to help me pick out my first dishes to try. Chef Yonette Alleyne originally hails from Guyana and she started this delicious restaurant as a pop up – her cooking is incredible and authentic and something everyone should have on their LA must try list! She has now made Blossom Market Hall her home – and Caribbean Gourmet is definitely a star in the food hall lineup here.
Order at the counter and they’ll give you a buzzer. The vibe in the market hall is lively and inviting – with lots of seating options and promising dessert choices once you’ve finished your dinner. You’ll find Caribbean Gourmet right inside the main entrance and there’s plenty of free parking on site.
Prices are decent considering the quality and the portions are massive. Can’t wait to come back and try the specials and pastries!!

On Sundays, you just want a little piece of heaven. It’s the day before the work week begins, and when the sun is shining, the weather’s perfect, and everyone seems to be on the same vibration, it feels like everything aligns.
We found ourselves in San Gabriel at Blossom Market, where I stumbled upon a familiar name, but for me, a first-time experience, Caribbean Gourmet. I was immediately intrigued, especially when I noticed a panel of Caribbean flags proudly displayed. Seeing my very own among them made me feel not just inspired, but welcomed.
As someone who isn’t a native of Los Angeles, any time I see something or someone that reminds me of home, of island people, it fills me with warmth. You feel connected, you feel loved, you feel family. And that’s exactly how I felt the moment I approached Caribbean Gourmet.
From the start, I was beyond welcomed and cared for. As I began asking questions, the team offered me samples, one of oxtail, the other of curry chicken, each with a little rice. When I tell you, I didn’t even have a big appetite, but I could have eaten a full plate of both.
The oxtail was smooth and tender, falling right off the bone. It was spicy, but in a way that took you on a journey, inviting you in gently before leading you to a deeper, richer heat. Every bite was comforting and flavorful, settling into a spice that lingered beautifully. The curry chicken was equally balanced, juicy, well-marinated, and bursting with warmth.
After my samples, I was absolutely full, but I had to support this business. So I ordered a chicken patty, and when I tell you, a tear came down my face with that first bite, I mean it. The crust was perfection, flaky, buttery, almost dessert-like, and the filling was deeply seasoned, tasting as though it had been marinated for hours, maybe even days. It was packed with flavor, hearty, and beyond satisfying.
It’s now almost 4 o’clock, and I know I won’t be eating dinner. Not because I’m not hungry, but because I’m so fulfilled, by the food, by the care, by the love that was poured into every bite.
In my usual fashion of gratitude, I had to say thank you. I wanted to meet the person behind the magic. When I returned to Caribbean Gourmet, I saw a woman speaking with someone and couldn’t help but interrupt to ask if she was the cook. She smiled, it was Yonette Alleyne, the owner herself.
What an angel. Her hands aren’t just meant for cooking, they’re meant for sharing love and light through food. Speaking with her felt like being embraced by family.
She made my Sunday. I cannot wait to return, to connect with Yonette again, and to share the beautiful and delicious experience I had at Caribbean Gourmet.
The staff are always all smiles, and so friendly and helpful!! The owner is also usually there making sure things go just right, and that her customers are happy-a real sign that a lot of heart and soul are at the core of this incredible little restaurant.
We always get the traditional Jerk Chicken plate, which comes with all the traditional sides, Jamaican rice n beans, steamed cabbage/vegetables, and fried sweet plantains… I also ALWAYS get a side of their Oxtail soup, and literally put it all over everything! It’s THAT GOOD!! That said, this is hands down, the BEST oxtail soup I’ve ever had!!!
They have house made traditional Jamaican Punches, and a wide variety of other dishes on the menu-lots of traditional, then some slightly less traditional so as to offer a variety that everyone can enjoy.
They are comfortably nestled in the San Marino Market, and surrounded by lots of other international food stalls, so you can get some delicious Jamaican meals there, and maybe try some yummy drinks or other various dishes around the market. The space is large, and open, well lit, with lots of seating all over the place-inside and out if it’s a nice day!
The best decision of your day, week, month, or maybe year, will be making this fantastic place your next GO TO traditional Jamaican food spot!!!
Hope you bring your taste buds, because they’re about to throw a party for all this traditional Jamaican FLAVOR!!!
Flavorful Caribbean Comfort with Outstanding Service!
Our first visit to Caribbean Gourmet in the San Gabriel Valley was a total delight! We ordered the Curry Chicken with Roti, Curry Chicken with Rice & Peas, and the Oxtail Stew—and every dish was absolutely delicious. My entire family was thrilled with their meals, and everyone agreed the flavors were rich, authentic, and deeply satisfying.
The service was immediate and courteous, with staff greeting us warmly and serving with genuine smiles. The ambiance was just as impressive—welcoming, spotless, well-organized, and beautifully multicultural. It felt like stepping into a vibrant island kitchen with a touch of elegance.
We’re already planning our next visit, and I’m especially excited to see the holiday menu so I can place a catering order. Caribbean Gourmet has earned a permanent spot on our favorites list!
