Hong Kong Pearl delivers solid dim sum in a casual setting. They’ve got all the dim sum favorites, and everything came out exactly how I expected – properly cooked with well-balanced seasoning. All the dishes were well-executed, and I’d happily order them again.

The hostess greeted us immediately when we walked in and pointed us to our party. Dim sum carts came around frequently with a wide variety of standard staples to choose from, and the servers were efficient about keeping things moving.

Atmosphere-wise, it’s about what you’d expect – no fancy restaurant, but it works for what it is. You can actually have a conversation without competing with noise, which is always a plus.

If you’re looking for reliable dim sum with friendly service, this is a solid choice.

I would rate the taste here 5 stars. The dim sum comes piping hot on carts, ready to serve. Today we ordered 5 baskets from the cart and one additional item that had to be steamed to order. However, when the bill came it showed 6 baskets plus the extra dish. We tried to explain that it was incorrect and even showed photos and videos we had taken, but they said they couldn’t adjust the bill. Instead, they offered us to take one dim sum item home.

I understand mistakes can happen, but at the same time the staff should listen to customers when there’s clear evidence.

As for the service charge that many people mention in reviews, the restaurant suggests 18%, 20% or 22%, but it’s up to you how much to give. I will still come back because the food is very good — I’ll just make sure to check the items as the staff writes them down to be sure they match.

The restaurant has a bit of an old-fashioned feel and is on the darker side, but the dim sum is quite good. We ordered a variety of rice rolls (shrimp, BBQ, and beef), and all were tasty. I especially enjoyed the sticky rice and the duck(though some fur left on the skin), both flavorful and well prepared. The baked roasted pork pastry was also delicious.

The only item I didn’t love was the bean curd spring roll—it had a strong pork flavor that wasn’t to my taste. Other than that, nothing was bad, but nothing else particularly stood out either.

Overall, it’s a solid spot for dim sum, especially if you’re looking for an all-day option with reasonable prices.

My wife and I came here in a Saturday early evening. They brought around a cart with some appetizers. We had egg rolls, steamed buns and a pineapple pastry. They were pretty good. I had the chicken feet and they were delicious. My wife had a shrimp dish. It was very messy but so flavorful. I had an egg plant entree that was spicy but not too bad. Service was very quick. The reason I gave this a 4 for atmosphere is that this is an absolutely huge space and beside ourselves and another family it was empty. They probably host large events but it was a bit off putting to be in such a large space and there were so few people. The menu is immense and I can’t wait to come back and try more food!

I admit that I was a little scared when I first came in because there was a wedding reception going on at the time. However, I’m glad that I stuck with going inside and giving Hong Kong Pearl’s nightly dim sum a try because it is one of the best that I had in the DMV.

I love how everything is made fresh from the phoenix claws to the shrimp dumplings and that nothing tasted overpowering. Plus, it was sweet of the waitress to ask if I wanted to order tea. I’m especially grateful to her for bearing with me on my Mandarin.

All in all, if you love dim sum and you want to make date night even more special, then please, give Hong Kong Pearl’s food a try. You won’t regret it. 真的。:)

We have been searching for authentic Cantonese dim sum since the closure of old establishments in Wheaton. We found it here! The authentic dim sum experience is completely with great food and mobile carts. The servers come to your table nearly as soon as you are seated. The steamed and fried dim sums are delicious. Every visit, the food hits the spot! Best dim sum in Maryland!

Booked a big round table for our retreats, which sat at the corner all way towards the back. The banquet menu looked quite different from the last visit last year. The House Special Combination included four cold appetizers. The Crab Meat and Fish Maw Soup was tasteful. The Crispy Walnut Shrimp was paired with mayonnaise and broccoli. Double Lobsters were topped with ginger and scallions. The Eggplants were layered on top of the Black Pepper Fillet Steak. The Garlic Chicken was still crispy. The Abalone and the Shiitake Mushrooms were cooked with bok choy. The Steamed Flounder was delicious. The Seafood Fried Rice included many ingredients. The Herbal Jelly was a great finish.

We’ve got ourselves a **dim sum glow-up**! The replacement for New Fortune has swaggered in with a revamped menu, and let me tell you, it’s a serious upgrade.

The food? **Divine.** Fresh, delicious, and bursting with flavor like it finally got the seasoning memo. The **chicken feet** are serving up a sweet and tangy situation that keeps you coming back for more (assuming you can get over the fact that you’re nibbling on tiny clawed toes). The **shumai**? Juicy enough to make you question every dry dumpling you’ve ever suffered through. And the **ha-ka plus spare ribs**? Pretty darn tasty.

Now, let’s talk service. They’re **enthusiastic—maybe too much**. Blink twice and your plate’s gone. Ma’am, please, I wasn’t done reliving the joy of my last bite!

Overall, the food delivers, the menu slays, and if you can dodge the overly ambitious plate-snatching, you’re in for a treat. Would I go back? Absolutely—but I’m keeping a firm grip on my dumplings this time.

“Think twice before booking your wedding or party
here.”

If you are thinking about booking this restaurant for a wedding or any large event, please reconsider. I attended a family member’s wedding here, and the service was so unprofessional and careless that it completely ruined what should have been a once-in-a-lifetime celebration. My relatives spent over twenty thousand dollars, and what they received was nowhere near acceptable.

From the moment guests sat down, not a single staff member provided even the most basic service. No one offered drinks, no one added ice, and guests were left to figure everything out on their own — as if this were a self-serve buffet instead of a catered banquet with a mandatory 22% service fee.

Food was thrown onto the table with zero care or presentation. Soup was spilled everywhere, plates were not cleared, and dishes were stacked on top of each other because the staff simply didn’t bother. The level of disorganization and disrespect toward guests was unbelievable.

To make things worse, the owner argued back when feedback was given. Instead of taking responsibility, they chose to be defensive — which says everything about how this place is run.

This is, without question, one of the worst service experiences I have seen at any wedding venue.
For your own peace of mind and for the sake of your event, avoid this place.

We usually drive down to Hong Kong Pearl in VA, but discovered just today that they expanded to MD. While the food is pretty decent, everything else is sub par. The restaurant gives you a very run down vibe. With every corner of the restaurant needing some maintenance/upgrade/attention.

The selection is limited compared to the VA location, but provides most of what you would expect from a dim sum place, including shrimp crape, chives dumplings, congee, pork ribs etc.
