I ate at Friendly on a Friday night around 7:30 pm and it wasn’t crowded. I got the OG Dirty Flat Top Burger, fries, and onion rings. Loved the burger and onion rings. The fries were ok. Note that they don’t have free water here so bring your own or plan to buy bottled water there. The parking here is typical of the Convoy area so be prepared to hunt for parking. However, I think the Friendly has great burgers for a good price so it’s worth the hassle.

Decided to check out this spot since I was in the area. Heard about it through the grape vine from a chef i went to high school with. I was greeted by two gentlemen working behind the counter… and, let me just start with saying the greeting was dry and if I had known the outcome I’d recommend changing the name of this spot to some last resort of sorts. Anyway, reviewing the menu, i mentioned it was my first time being there and asked what the guys I recommended. I said I wanted the OG minus aioli. The guy at the register (mustached fellow) suggested the meat and bun. I didn’t see this didn’t have the grilled onions (which was preferred) but I didn’t bother and ordered two and a fry as well to go since I was en route to visit my son at Rady’s.

The food didn’t take long and the price wasn’t too terrible. I thanked them for the food at left to visit my son. The issue started with the fries: underdone and lacking any sort of seasoning.

The fries had no crunch and were very soft and chewy. They are usually the first thing I eat and I cared to not even finish them and so did my son. The burgers? Extremely underwhelming. The patties weren’t charred as expected and cheese tasted subpar. The bun, as my son, stated, tasted as if it was toasted in an electric toasted or cooked on an electric grill. If my 15 year old notices, you can for sure bet I do.

My issue is, I do not feel service was provided adequately and Im not going to jump to conclusions, but excluding a menu item simply because I wanted no sauce and something almost completely different and then going even more sub par to prepare the food is just disrespectful to the customer. There was no other customer in the restaurant, so lack of effort screams so many things and none of them are positive. The food being subpar was just a huge let down, especially when I have heard very good things about this place from multiple sources.

Im not sure what the norm is for this establishment, but I asked a nurse at Radys if she had heard of the friendly and ever been. She smiled warmly and said she had and that her experience was amazing. She was dismayed when we relayed our experience and she even noticed our fries being underdone. She said it could be a one-off and to give them another chance, especially the establishment in north park as that was the one she visited.

I am still posting this for the convoy location, but I will give the friendly one more shot. Till then, you’re better off getting any other burger spot in the area if repeated service is anything like what I experienced. If it’s a one off biased assessment, which I hope is the case, then I can openly look forward to trying the friendly’s second location in north park.

Don’t walk past this spot. The atmosphere is so outdated. Looked like I walked into an old restaurant from the 60s. There’s a reason for that because you want to focus on the food.

The Hamburgers here were absolutely delicious. Probably the best smashed burger I have ever ate. I tried a famous spot in LA and this beats that!!! I had the French Onion Dip burger and had the OG Dirty Flattop burger. I can’t choose between which one was the best. They both had their unique taste. I would definitely come by again. I live 2 hours away and I would make the drive just to have a smash burger from this spot.

Really greasy burgers with hamburger, grilled onions and bun. When they say NO Modifications they mean it. Staff was not particularly helpful or friendly. Bare bones restaurant with maybe 4 or 5 tiny tables. Honestly there are so many fabulous restaurants on Convoy I don’t know how they stay in business.

Special fish sando this time, smoked tuna dip and spicy remoulade. Super bomb. Not a bad thing on the menu, always better than it looks. Great folks, great tunes, great vibes.

I really hate leaving a low rating because I’ve had these burgers before and they were phenomenal.

This time, though, something was definitely off. We ordered three different burgers and every single one had a bad bun. There wasn’t visible mold, but they all had a strong sour, funky, chemical odor that clearly pointed to bacterial/yeast spoilage.

I ended up throwing my burger away because it was obvious the buns weren’t fresh and past their best by date. I didn’t want to risk unseen bacteria or getting sick, which was really disappointing given how great this place has been in the past.

I ordered an OG Dirty flattop and Onion rings. Meat is thin but very strong. This is Powerful hamburger. The only negative point is that the restaurant is smaller than restaurant’s potential. It was my first time to visit here, a stuff was so kind and recommended me hamburger. I like this restaurant.

I had a great experience at this place thanks to Kenny and Rhythm. There was a bit of a mix-up about whether they accepted EBT, but they handled it really well. They listened to me and adjusted the pricing to make it more affordable without any backup or fuss. I really appreciated their positive attitudes throughout the process. It felt comfortable, and I didn’t feel talked down to at all.

In the end, I walked away with some truly delicious food. The whole vibe of the place had a nice camaraderie, which made the experience even better. I’d definitely recommend checking them out! Thanks again
