Dish 1: Double Smash Burger – $15.00
Dish 2: Pan Seared Chicken Breast – $19.00
Appetizer: Chicken Nachos – $14.00
Kids Menu: Chicken Tenders – $8.00
Atmosphere: It’s a little too bright with the three huge chandeliers
They seated us on Valentine’s Day without a reservation! A complimentary basket of chips and salsa was provided. The nachos appetizer (chicken added) comes with a good variety of toppings. Chips remained crispy. Overall, the nachos were delicious but the cheese sauce was a little runny and settled below all the chips. Kids chicken tenders were soft with a thin light and crispy batter. French fries are thin versions of fair fries and have a deep potato flavor. The pan seared chicken and sauce was flavorful. The smash burger was tasty, but close to being too salty. I think the sauce may have been made with salted butter. The waitress did not ask for a temperature for the burger patties. Overall, the prices were fair, the service was great, the dining room and bathrooms are very clean, and I liked the food.
At least the pastries and food are good still.
Edit: I never updated the review after the owners responded but here is what happened. I never ask for the discount or refund because I personally never ordered a cake back but my other family members still do. When I did go back to try order another cake, the girl that took note of what happened was there and she told me she did send a text. Turns out she sent the text to the wrong number. She did say she did send something, but how did she send something if it was never received? If I did not go back I would have never known.
Anyways other family members still order from them and it still seems to be good for the majority of the time. There is still a couple of cakes that are not tres leches when requested.
Did I mention their tres leche cake is outstanding?!
When I walked in, I was greeted by a place with high ceilings and lots of empty walls and lots of space between tables. I ordered Sopa de Abuela and received a “soup” with good tasting liquid – and lots of it – but whole pieces of chicken buried in the soup along with two whole potatoes and two very large chunks of carrot.
So I was able to break up the carrot and potatoes to eat with my soup, but the whole chicken pieces defied my bidding. They moved around in the soup and needed a plate for chopping up. I moved a leg to my rice plate where I attempted to pry off some meat to eat. I was able to separate two pieces of meat which I ate. The meat was stringy and tough. The skimpy breast did give up two pieces of meat which were medium tender.
Needless to say, this was a very unsatisfying meal. The decent service couldn’t make up for the cold surroundings and the tough, skimpy meat in my sopa.
I will never go back to Don Jose’s Kitchen and I am very disappointed.
Then I walked next door and checked out their bakery. They have so many delicious offerings. I will be back to the restaurant and to the bakery to take home one of the delicious looking cakes!
Delicious food, beautifully presented! Highly recommend checking out the specials, featured on a chalkboard at the entrance. I had the Jalea blue fish and it was an incredible feast! Enough food for 2 or 3 people with scrumptious fried blue fish (served in it’s entirety), a bounty of fried fish nuggets, calamari, and fried shrimp perfectly complemented by an onion salsa, and yucca with a creamy dipping sauce(the photo didn’t do it justice) Also ordered at my table were two different ceviche entrees which were beautifully presented and delicious. Another dinner in our group enjoyed the churasco. Everyone was offered a sample of a delicious rice pudding dessert served with a side of fruit compote. The restaurant interior was spacious and inviting but honestly way too quiet. Come discover this wonderful place for yourself and please tell your friends!
