I arrived approximately 30 minutes before the kitchen’s posted closing time and was told the store was already closed.
I did not ask for staff-prepared coffee—it is self-serve—and I asked whether my four-year-old daughter and I could get a sandwich, which was refused.
I opened the door slowly and respectfully; I did not force or yank it open. The interaction was recorded, and the video clearly shows this. It also contradicts claims that the door was yanked open or that anyone was nearly harmed. The person remained standing in front of the doorway after it was opened, as shown in the video, and only moved after I said “excuse me.”
I was spoken to rudely and dismissively, and the language and tone used were unnecessary and unprofessional. As a mixed-race customer, the way this interaction was handled left me feeling singled out and unwelcome. Regardless of intent, that impact matters.
The owner’s response following the incident further reflects a lack of accountability and professionalism. This entire situation was avoidable and deeply upsetting, especially in front of my child.
And honestly, I would never go back there and if you wanna threaten someone not to come back on your property, you should put a restraining order or no trespassing, but I didn’t do anything wrong or rude as you claim which once I post this video after editing it will prove that you’re just a LIAR
Have the day that you deserve is a quote that you stated in your response does that mean because I’m mixed on a Sunday that I’m not allowed to have a good day on the Lord’s day because you feel superior because of your skin color

The Madison Cheese Shop is truly an amazing gem. I used to bring cheeses and charcuterie fixings back from Manhattan, but thanks to them — there is no longer a need. The owner and her staff are lovely and extremely knowledgeable. The selection they have is extensive from cheeses to cured meats and tinned fish — all exquisite. We are lucky to have them. Jonathan’s memory is unbelievable — he will remember the alpine cheese I got 6 months ago! Many thanks for always taking such good care of me for every occasion.

This was my first visit to Madison and I was looking for somewhere to grab lunch. I accidentally stumbled upon this adorable cheese shop and am so glad I did! What a gem. I had the French Mouse which may have been one of the best, gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches that I’ve ever had! They also have a unique selection of cheeses and accompaniments. I will definitely be back!

This is our favorite store in Madison, if not the entire shoreline. The staff is consistently incredibly helpful, engaging, and excited to share a love of cheese! Everything we’ve tried has been delicious and they have never steered us wrong with their recommendations.

Friendly and welcoming service, creative and delicious housemade lemonade, and delicious grilled cheese sandwiches. Add ham? Add blueberry jam? Add veggies? Plenty of options to choose from and I look forward to coming back to try another!

The owner should not work with people. Intentionally helps other people that are behind you in line, she suggests the wait is too long ( to make a grilled cheese) in order to not help you. She has a terrible demeanor and horrible customer service skills. Your business would thrive without you. What a shame because the food is slightly above average but wildly over priced. Thankfully for you there is no competition which keeps you afloat. Cheer up, be kind and helpful to those who are willing to give you business or don’t and you’ll see how that works out.

I come for both sandwiches and cheese. Sandwiches are all amazing. My favorite is the “Not a Hamburger.”
Good service, good people. Expensive, but like with many things, you get the quality you pay for.

Service was great and the knowledge of the product was incredible. We both ordered the cherry pie grilled cheese and it was beyond amazing! I really hope they make that part of the menu and not just a special! We’d definitely come back for that. But even if they don’t we’d come back anyway. Great place!

Great local cheese shop with outstanding selection of cheeses and locally sourced meats for platters and sandwiches. This is the place to go for lunch, charcuterie and cheese platters. As one of the employees stated “we won’t sell it, if it isn’t the best. We have to eat it also” as she laughed. Nothing more true can be said about Madison Cheese Shop.

We visit Madison CT every year from Ontario and always make it a must to visit the cheese shop. We will absolutely not go home without stopping in atleast once. The selection is amazing (especially with cheeses we can’t get in Canada), the staff is knowledgeable, friendly, makes great recommendations and on multiple occasions makes a point in remembering us.
This year we tried a few varieties of their sandwiches to bring on the drive home with us and they were all amazing.
Cant recommend them enough.
