Update:

I had to give Harold’s Carbondale an updated review. I could not accept that my favorite chicken shop was less than great! Today I road past and the restaurant was not overcrowded.

I am glad to say my food was delicious and well done this time around! My customer service experience was amazing! My order was also correct and I had to wait but it was not an hour as my first experience.

I will recommend to anyone who has had a bad experience to give them another try the owner has gotten his team together and it shows in the food! Thank you!!!

Original Post:
I could not wait for my home town chicken franchise to open. But I am so disappointed in what I was served today!

For one thing, I waited for one hour to get eight wings and a pizza puff! I asked for mild sauce on my eight-piece, and they also decided to place it all over my pizza puff!!

So not everyone in my home could eat, because of this mistake after an hour wait!

Also, my french fries weren’t done! Not a good start for my personal experience congratulations to those how had a better $18 experience than I!

LET (clap) ME (clap) SAY (clap) ONE (clap) THING: Harold’s of Carbondale is the business! Y’all…why did this southerner just stumble upon the best chicken wing and catfish spot above the Mason-Dixon Line? I ain’t telling a lie either. On Friday I was on Facebook and happened to come across Harold’s page. I took a look at the menu and decided I might stop by later that evening. I almost went home and ate a half of a cold-cut sandwich from the grocery store I had left in the fridge, but thank goodness my first-mind told me to go by that place Harold’s I saw earlier online.

When I entered the brightly painted and very clean lobby of Harold’s of Carbondale, I was greeted with a smiling face behind the counter. I asked a few questions about the menu and was permitted to test the famous mild sauce before ordering. The menu selection is plentiful and includes various chicken and seafood items, as well as sides and desserts. Choosing what I wanted was so difficult, but I ultimately selected the catfish and chicken combo, substituting the french fries for fried mushrooms. Everything is cooked fresh, so I was told the wait would be 15-17 minuets. When I tell you that the wait was so worth it, I am telling the absolute truth! Once prepared, I took my food to my car and decided to take a little taste of the mushrooms. First of all, the portions are huge! I almost made myself sick from eating over half the mushrooms too quickly. That’s just how good they were. They were delicious, juicy, hot, crispy, and did I say delicious? I was so full from fried mushrooms that I didn’t have room for anything else. You know I had to “check” the food before I drove off though. Y’all, I opened the bag with the catfish and wings and my mind was BLOWN! They give you THREE (3) whole catfish fillets and THREE (3) whole chicken wings in addition to bread, slaw, and fries (or mushrooms in my case).

As full as I was, y’all know I pinched a piece of that catfish off to try it. It was BANGING! Harold’s knows how to cook some southern tasting food! I got out my car and went back into the store to let them know I appreciated them. I had to. Food this good deserves to be shown appreciation. When I was waiting for my food, I learned from the woman who took my order that Harold’s is a black-owned, family-owned restaurant. This particular location is the 29th store owned by the founder’s daughter, which makes Harold’s of Carbondale a small, local, minority woman-owned business. Later that evening once my food was digested a bit more, I tasted the wings with that famous sauce and they are just a delicious as everything else. This is definitely a spot that will get my repeated business. I highly recommend Harold’s of Carbondale. When you go by, tell them that Kindra Speech sent ya!

Paid 6 bucks for 2 tenders bc I just wanted a quick bite. Got the skimpiest 2 tenders i ever seen and some mid bread that was stale. Tried the fries too since my buddy had them and they were mid at best. Won’t return.

This chicken is still raw, the fries are nasty and cold. These new owners must be related to the old ones. $15 for some nasty food . Definitely will be reporting this to the health department.

I cannot say enough good things about this establishment. I had made an order for pick-up on a Saturday night but there was an unexpected power outage and the order couldn’t be fulfilled by the pick-up time. The staff called to inform me of this and I explained that my pickup time was not an issue because the order was being bought to reheat the next day. I explained that we intended to eat it while watching the Sunday games with my boyfriend’s father who is originally from Chicago (he had been talking about wanting Harold’s for weeks). After hearing this the staff graciously offered to come in the next day when they are traditionally closed to fulfill the order fresh. When I came to pick up the order the staff offered me a free 2 liter of soda and also offered carry my order out to my car. I cannot say enough about how much I appreciate their efforts and the high quality of their food and service.

Take out only no dine-in which is how I like it. The gentleman at the counter remembers my face so it makes each trip more personable. The various wait times are not an issue especially when I know my food will be fresh. I usually get a 6pcs with extra lemon pepper and hot sauce on the side. The price is 15$ and I get it about once or twice a month, each and every time I get (regardless of I walk in order or call in order) the food is fresh and cooked to my satisfaction. There are no issue with employee customer relations I never hear anyone complain and I’m always served with a smile. I will continue to return I appreciate what you guys are bringing to the community.

I’ve tried chicken from Harold’s twice. It’s strictly carry out or delivery, no seating. The first time I went to the location and ordered a wing dinner. I wasn’t told until after I paid that my order wouldn’t be ready for 30 minutes. The wings were pretty good, the fries were undercooked, not crispy, and they failed to put slaw in the bag. The second time I ordered on line, understanding the order wouldn’t be ready for 30 minutes. The chicken was not as good as the first time, the fries were again undercooked and not crispy, and again they failed to put slaw in the bag. I called about the slaw and was told that even though it’s included with the dinners they don’t give it to you unless you ask for it. I really wanted to like this place but probably won’t be going back.

I have ate Harold’s chicken before it is one of my favorite chicken go to spots. I was so pleased that it finally came to our area. I was very happy with the food everything was excellent .. The customer service was top notch so friendly and down to earth. Yes I did have to wait in a long line because this place was booming and sold out the first day of grand opening. Great location, the owner/ management was right there with working as well to ensure the best outcome for us country folk .. the food was fresh and hot.. five star for sure

Being from Chicago my expectations were very high. When they first opened I can tell they weren’t prepared for the crowd that Harolds attracts. But as of now the manager Tasha does a great job of making sure your order is correct and doesn’t take long being ready despite being cooked to order. The sauce is good, food is fresh, coleslaw cold be better, but overall service is great.

Weekday after lunch for pickup on a 2 piece with fries and a drink.

Wait was over 20 minutes while one worker was outside smoking 2 times and just before my order was finally done he walked out while giving me a strange look, saying nothing as I said “hi”.
Same worker stood beside the woman ringing up an order and let the phone ring until they hung up.
A cook was outside once during my wait.
The woman taking my order was, somewhat, friendly.
No other customers before me, picking up, etc so unsure why the long wait without being busy…
The food was hot when I did receive it but So greasy. The fries were Not cooked thoroughly and the chicken wasn’t great with flavor.
Price wasn’t bad, but it was reflected in the quality.
Would not recommend, would not return.
