Reason for 1 star: Disrespectful, Unprofessional, Hair in food
We really wanted to like this place, but our recent experience was so frustrating and disappointing that we will never return.
My husband stopped by on his way home to place an order in person since we couldn’t get through on the phone. Once there, he learned their phone and internet were down, which explained why. That part we understood.
He placed the order and was asked to pay via Venmo. He confirmed the recipient with the owner and sent the money, but she didn’t seem to know how to check her Venmo app. As she fumbled with her phone, the food came out, but instead of finishing the payment check, she rushed over to help a new group of customers — leaving my husband standing there while the food sat on the counter.
After another 5–10 minutes, a worker asked if they could hand him the food, and the owner actually yelled, “No, don’t give him the food! I need to check Venmo!” Even after he showed both the Venmo confirmation screen and email receipt, she insisted she hadn’t received it.
Finally — more than 30 minutes after ordering — she suddenly said, “Oh, we got it!” and let him leave. By that point, my husband was so upset and frustrated with how poorly it was handled.
To make matters worse, when I opened my beef intestine soup at home, I found a hair in it. That was the final straw.
Between the lack of basic payment knowledge, the way the owner abandoned the transaction mid-check, the unnecessary delay, and the hygiene issue, this was an awful experience from start to finish. We tried to be patient and understanding, but left feeling disrespected and let down. Definitely not somewhere we’ll return.
I’ve dined here several times already, and each time was fantastic.
My current favorite items:
– Soon Tofu (soups) – mushroom and the beef + seafood with black rice
– The Tofu Combos – if you’re a little more hungry, I recommend the BBQ short ribs with the tofu soup
– Dumplings – fried or steamed, they are both excellent!
– The complimentary ice cream!
When you receive the boiling hot tofu soup, immediately add the raw egg and stir it a little. The egg will cook fast in the hot broth. Vegetarian and vegan options are also available.
If you’re in the area, try Soy Tofu. It’s in a plaza with a Korean market and many other restaurants. There’s usually plenty of parking in the public lot.
Only just discovering this place after 10
Years of living in the area.
Thank you, Grace!
Best tofu in town. The soup base is the soul of the tofu set lunch and dinner. The seafood handmade noodle is a must because of the fresh ingredient and soup, no MSG. An owner operated family restaurant. Extremely courteous front line crew and seasoned chef. Don’t forget to ask for the hot corn tea and help yourself with the ice cream on the house…green tea, coffee, strawberry, and vanilla flavor. Just found out that they also cater Korean and Japanese food as well.
