I tried their 3-roll special today and it completely reset my standards. I’m mildly embarrassed to admit that I sometimes settle for grocery store sushi when I’m in a rush. This was the same price and about a thousand times better. Fresh, perfectly made, and actually satisfying.
The staff was friendly, the place was clean, and it just felt good supporting a small local business.
Do yourself a favor and go to Vic’s. Your future self will thank you
The hamachi jalapeno was delicious with a bit of sweet chili oil. The tempura was crispy, hot, and the sauce had a hint of lemon. The spicy tuna tartar was too mild for my taste but was fresh and perfectly sized. All presented in beautiful to go boxes and trays. And the guys were really friendly. The place is tiny but well kept and you can eat inside. They have some nice green tea bottles from Japan.
Located inside a small office building on Lancaster Avenue on the Main Line, I wasn’t quite sure how I like this place.
The sushi was definitely fresh, but I was disappointed when they didn’t have the fresh wasabi root I ordered. That wasabi root was what was going to separate this place from all the rest of the sushi restaurants.
Nevertheless, I am giving this restaurant three stars. The taste was good and maybe even above par compared to other sushi restaurants. However, like any other takeout sushi, some of the rolls were either made too quickly, fell apart and/or seemed whoever made it was genuinely not interested in putting much effort into it.
The sushi, I ordered the nigiri special, was ok. It was much smaller than I hoped, but again, take out sushi.
Overall, I’d say Vic’s Sushi is above average compared to most take out sushi places. However, if more effort was put in make the food look good too (and also not run out of wasabi roots), this place can definitely go up against actual sit in restaurants as well — tastewise.
