The Plywood Palace is the poster child for dive bars in Wisconsin. This was the third time I was here and it never disappoints.

This place is an absolute gem! We had to stop and check it out, and it truly lives up to the hype. A classic hole-in-the-wall with plywood walls and tons of character—exactly the kind of place we love discovering. It’s unpretentious, welcoming, and full of local charm. Places like this are special, and you can feel it the moment you walk in. So glad we stopped—this is the kind of spot that makes a trip memorable.

All I can say is…just go! It is like a fort we all used to build as kids. Sit, order a beer, or white claw, enjoy the surroundings. Sign your name with the Sharpie marker. I am so glad that it was open when we passed by. The nice guy who owns it is a man of few words, but he is likeable as can be and I am glad that we got to finally get there. Then, get on your way to your destination. I am attaching photos. But, believe me, it’s better when you see it personally.

What you see in the pictures is what you get . If you can appreciate a unique upper Wisconsin dive bar experience, this place is for you. This was definitely a unique experience.. I could see the sky through the ceiling, there’s no heat, and pretty sure they don’t have any running water.

No frills bar. Definitely satisfied our curiosity. If you enjoy the outdoors, this place is for you. Bud is a quiet kind of guy. Definitely on our list of go to dive bars. He is not a Vikings fan. You can tell by his decor.

A fun place to visit. Definitely below dive bar status and so unbelievable that you have to see it for yourself.

This is a regional landmark that everyone should check out at least once. Very rustic and stands out on it’s own. If you’ve never heard of it, YouTube search it & everyone loves stopping there. Conveniently located off of the Tri-County Corridor around 8 miles west of Ashland.

Friendly people, cold beers and plenty of unique culture to look at while consuming your beverage. The Plywood Palace is a must see. If you are easily offended or prefer fancy drinks and IPA’s this place is not for you. If you voted for liberals please just keep driving. If you like dive bars this is the king!

By far one of the most interesting locations I’ve been to. Doesn’t look like much but is full of great history from talking to locals that were there. Owner was very nice and even though it was very busy he was quick and we never waited long for a drink. A must-see place for sure.
