We really enjoyed this Hawaiian BBQ place and were happily surprised with how good the food was. We got the sampler platter and everything was great, especially the ribs and chicken! The price was also pretty decent for barbecue. We also loved the in-house BBQ sauce. The co-owner was friendly and we’ll definitely be back!

I came in, had never heard of the place. But I got 2 tacos, 1 beef and 1 pork. I got a side of 1/2 chili and half Mac salad; that combination, is lit. My wife got a pork sandwich and it was all very delicious and pretty tasty. Pictures is of just my meal

Some of the best Hawaiian food I’ve had outside Hawaii. The chicken had a great smokey flavor on the outside and was tender and moist on the inside. Good chili, too, and the spicy BBQ sauce was excellent. My wife enjoyed the loaded fries. Fast, friendly service. It was a nice day, so we sat outside on the impressive patio. We biked here on the Greenbelt, but there’s plenty of parking.

We first tried Chicken in a Barrel in Kauai. The variety of barrel smoked bbq was great and everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection. I’m excited to report this location met all expectations.
The vibe here is incredible. I felt like I was back on Hanalei minus the ocean and the wandering chickens. The staff was super friendly, plenty of seating and everything was clean. We ordered the loaded fries along with the chicken/ribs plate. Barrel smoked meats just hits different. Everything was delicious! We’d definitely come back when we’re in the area again.

Tried the ribs plate and was not disappointed! It came with a delicious cup of chili and a scoop of plain brown rice. Paid $1 for parking; located on the first floor of the Boardwalk apartments in Garden City. There are tables inside but you can also sit outside to enjoy your food. Highly recommend if you’re craving BBQ!

Absolutely incredible food. If you’re looking for high quality bbq look no further. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, I tried the sampler plate and just when I thought the food couldn’t get any better it kept blowing my socks off. Very promising!!! Chicken in a Barrel is a welcome addition to Garden City and the greater Boise area! I tried the sampler plate of chicken, pulled pork and beef, a baby back rib, homemade chili and brown rice. I really loved the chili, it wasn’t heavy and it was packed with tons of flavor. The meat is served “naked” and they offer their original sauce which I loved. It was a nice combination of smokey sweet that I really enjoyed. They offer a “hot” version that I didn’t try. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED the baby back rib and next time I would definitely order the full or half rack a la cart without hesitation!! The chicken was perfectly cooked and delicious! I found the pulled beef and pork salty for my taste and I really hope that isn’t the norm. I have a feeling it’s not because everything else was perfectly seasoned. The brown rice was average.
The service was above and beyond as I had a little difficulty finding the restaurant in the newly built building. I called them and an employee actually came outside to look for me! The restaurant is casual with an open concept. I’m very excited for their large outside patio area that will be a great place to eat when the weather warms up.
Chicken in a Barrel also offers a Keiki (kids) Menu, various sides and an either a mixed green or caesar salad.
TIP – park in the dirt lot at the end of the road and walk across to the apartment building keeping towards the left side. The restaurant is located on the left side of the building.

This is evidently a Kauai thing, new to me, yet tasty. The combo platter for $24 will give you a bite of everything. The rib was a standout, the beef and pork in desperate need of the spicy sauce you apply yourself, and the chicken was quite good. Fast service, and on a cold winter afternoon, we were the only ones there. You will eat on a paper plate. No alcohol. Big dining room and you can eat outside in nice weather. Worth a visit.

Amazing! We drove over from Middleton and we are glad we did. The chili was delicious, we ended up purchasing more for the next day. My husband got the chicken and ribs plate. The portion of meat was more than either of us could eat. My plate had ribs and pulled pork. The meat is so tender and has an awesome smoked flavor. The sauces add the right hint of kick for me. We had leftovers for the next day. We purchased some seasoning/rub that I can’t wait to try. The staff, Pepper and Mike are so friendly too. I seen another review on here complaining about the parking. This isn’t on the restaurant so please don’t bash them for something out of their control. We will definitely be back! Thank you for bringing your island food to the Treasure Valley.
