What a delight. This is a good place to get good home cooking. This is what your mama would make vs an elevated culinary experience. We were passing through town and stopped for lunch. We have been here a few times now since moving to the area. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming! Obviously loved by local folk and tourists alike. Great service, tasty food like you mom would make and reasonable prices. On our first visit there, I said to my husband “This is the type of place where you’re going to be asked if they can get you some pie”. It happened on our second visit Unfortunately we were too full from our breakfast, but the pie did look delicious! We couldn’t recommend this place enough for anyone looking for a local homestyle food diner!

These small town diners are disappearing; a fate that should not befall the G.I. Day Room. This place is a gem! A local customer asked if they ever have egg salad on the menu. ”Sometimes, but I have a couple of hard-boiled eggs now; I’ll make you some.”
We watched two women come in, sit down at the counter and place their order. After a couple minutes, they told her they’d be back to pick it up. She asked if they were going next door, then she said she’d just bring it over to them when it was ready. We need more of this type of kindness in all aspects of our lives!

We came in after our stay at the hotel across the street while riding the GAP. It was CASH ONLY the day we were there I don’t know if this is normal but just be aware. It was the breakfast we had on the trail. Awesome place. Very clean. Wonderful prices. All the locals. Support the locals while riding the GAP. very welcoming to the bicyclists. Breakfast potatoes were just what I needed to hit the trail. I would go again the next time we come through on the trail.

Great food and amazing cheerful service. It has the warm vibe of a local place where everyone knows everybody. Absolutely worth the climb that you’re going to have to do on the way back if you’re arriving by bicycle from the GAP Trail.

A great find. We sat on a bar stool at the counter and watched the short order grill cook turn out all sorts of delicious food. What a great show! She even made smiling face pancakes. Real maple syrup too. The food was as good as it gets. We will be back.
