After being warmly welcomed we were given plenty of time to work through the excellent menu. Each dish perfectly described.
For starters we chose for the Prawn Puri and Himalayan Special Prawns. The Prawn Puri was perfectly balanced with the spices, and had a slightly sweet and tangy texture of tomatoes, absolutely delicious. The texture and the spicy flavour of the Himalayan Special Prawns was divine.
For the main dishes we had the Garlic Chilli Lamb, Himalayan Non-Veg Special Platter, Vegetable Fried Rice and mushroom fried rice and a Naan Bread.
In my experience and humble opinion, perfectly cooked and the taste was, well put it this way, tastebuds were dancing with joy.
I may have mentioned it was our 32nd wedding anniversary at some point and a pleasant surprise followed our main meal. A wonderful gesture from the management and staff.
I found the price of the dishes extremely reasonable and great value.
I really cannot fault the place. Perfect hospitality is the only way to describe the experience at the Himalayan Yak.
Parking is also available nearby the restaurant. As we came in to dine in at evening the nearby parking lot was free of charge.
I ordered what was described as a chef’s special and was charged £13, but received a very small box containing just four pieces of paneer. The chilli paneer also had only four pieces. That’s unacceptable for the price. For comparison, you can buy a full pack of paneer from Costco for around £5.
In total, I spent £25 and received:
4 small pieces of paneer
1 samosa
2 bajjis
3 papadums
The portion sizes were shockingly small. I ordered expecting proper servings and quality, but opening the boxes was genuinely disappointing.
If you live near Swadlincote or Burton-on-Trent, I would strongly advise you to reconsider ordering from this restaurant. This felt like extremely poor value for money.
