This place is usually pretty good and the staff is friendly but it has some consistency issues. I usually order a plain 16oz hot latte no extra anything and I did the same today but it was somehow $6.20 which seemed high and I had to double check my past purchases after I left to confirm and yeah I usually pay 5.89. When I got my drink today it also felt much lighter than usual and when I opened the lid it was not even close to full. I’ve attached a photo to show how full it was before I had a drink from it. And another issue I’ve experienced is their drip coffee is extremely watered down, like you are drinking hot slightly bean flavored water. I love supporting local and this place is cozy and welcoming. But like I said, usually they’re good but I have ran into a few consistency and quality issues that prompted me to leave a review.

I moved to the Brainerd area from Minneapolis this past summer. I was spoiled by great local coffee shops there and have been searching for a place that could be my “new spot” here. It took me months to find, but I’m happy to say that Stomping Grounds is that new place. Amazing service, amazing food and coffee. After the first sip, I knew I would be coming back again and again. Staples, Minnesota, has good espresso!
Everywhere I travel, I search for good espresso. Outstanding espresso bars have become quite common in larger cities and urban settings around the United States but are noticeably less common in rural communities and small towns. Stomping Grounds in my hometown bucks that small town trend, pulling espresso shots that are rich, bright, and delicious, with a wonderful aroma and lovely crema.
I visited several times on this trip, and the service was invariably friendly. The shop’s decor is rustic and coffee focused, and the atmosphere reflects a steady flow of loyal, local customers.
The prices are reasonable, although the price for the standard double espresso ($4) is a little high and a little strange, relative to the prices for a single shot ($1.75) or a quad ($4.50). And the espresso would be even better in an actual espresso cup, rather than a coffee mug or 16 oz to-go cup (which is why there are no photos of the actual espresso). Still, these are minor observations for areas of potential improvement in the context of an otherwise terrific experience.
Given my love for a nice espresso, I’m grateful for Stomping Grounds. I will be back every time I visit my hometown.

Great coffee flavors- got a pistachio macaroon blended latte and it is Devine! Also a cool little sticker collection with unique pictures and phrases that are hilarious! I was laughing in the shop!

Fabulous service, someone new learning the ropes was kind and friendly and made easy suggestions for a first time customer. Pleasant and that’s what I always hope for! Great extras offered inside; stickers, straws, cups, water bottles, candles, soaps, clothes, etc. Can’t wait to stop in again!

One of the best coffee shops I’ve been to! The staff is much appreciated as they are incredibly friendly and always so welcoming. The Cafe itself is a very cozy and warm environment. A must stop if you are in the area.

I will be honest without mentioning names, I have been to 2 other coffee places and NOTHING compares to Stomping Grounds in Staples. The owner is a gem and her employees are awesome. The coffee here is SO GOOD!!! Nothing tastes burned, or bitter. Another bonus is they have a big variety of different coffee drinks. Sometimes I veer away from my usual to try something new and am never disappointed. I love it!

Stomping Grounds is now serving Dirty Sodas and they are amazing! I went to get coffee one morning before school and saw that they offered them and I just had to try it! They offer Sprite or Coke and mix tasty syrup flavors with creamer to make a whole new side of soda that’s exquisite! My favorite is the Dirty Sprite with Blue Raspberry and Strawberry. I definitely recommend it! Go try it now!
