Wasn’t long after we sat before the server asked for our order. We hadn’t been here for many years because the last time we were there they allowed smoking in the restaurant.
So we Wasn’t committed to ordering drinks, or anything, until we could check out the menu, and the smell since last visit the smell of cigarette smoke kept us out of there for maybe a decade.
So, that said. We eat out frequently, and prefer local diners. This place is close, but not convenient to any direction I need to go. We went on a Thursday, roast beef was the special. My wife ordered that, with mashed potatoes and mac-n-cheese. I ordered the 4 piece chicken strip dinner, choice of potato, served with slaw. I chose a baked potato. I didn’t think about it, until my plate was served, no slaw. Asked the server, who seemed a bit more interested in folding laundry than attending to her tables, and she said that I have to specifically ask for the slaw for it to be included. I wonder, would my meal be cheaper without it?
I may be back, but it won’t be for the service. The food was good. I asked about if they post the daily specials on social media, and it seemed as though I should already know the specials. I actually look almost daily as to which diner I’m going to visit according to their special. If I don’t know, I don’t go.
I’m sorry this is so long winded, but, I have high hopes for Nannie Jo’s, it’s close to home, but far from where I’m heading. I want to love this local diner, but I’m not quite there. Yet.

Nannie Jo’s in Fountain Run Kentucky is a hidden gem. They have that small community atmosphere that can’t be faked. “They are the real deal”. The food is good the service is good and the atmosphere is good . They have large portions on every plate meal. I personally like the Roast Beef Manhattan with the coke slaw. The burgers are great as well. If your in the area then I recommend that you stop in and give them a try. You won’t be disappointed.

I have yet to receive that “friendly welcome” you’d expect from a small town restaurant named Nannie Joe’s. The decor is nice and the food is pretty good for the price so I don’t mind eating there when I pass through, but most times no one even speaks when I walk in the door. I get curious looks, but no one says “sit where you want” or “be with you in a minute.” One time I overheard a waitress ask a younger waitress to wait on me. She didn’t seem happy about it, but I tipped her well anyway. I’m not smelly or disfigured or notorious, so I’m not sure what the cold shoulder is for. A couple of times I stood at the register to pay for my meal, and the waitress sat there on the phone and wouldn’t even look up and acknowledge me. Others just sat around, probably expecting the gal on the phone would eventually take my money, but completely disregarded the length of time I had stood there. And rarely have I even gotten a polite smile before my credit card goes through. Maybe a miserable place to work? I don’t know. But the decore is nice and the food is pretty good for the price.

We live in Portland TN and this was our first visit. We absolutely loved it! The food was wonderful and very fair prices, especially for how much you get. The servers Madison and Jada were amazing !! Thank you again, ladies. We will definitely be back!!

Just realized I had forgotten to write a review for this place. Amazing catfish at incredibly low prices. This place is worth the drive if you pass anywhere close. The salad bar is always crisp and fresh, and the catfish is delicious and they make sure you have more than you can eat. Highly recommended!
I have to add, I lucked into the pot roast for lunch one day, and it is literally the best pot roast I have ever eaten in my life.

It doesn’t really get any better when you are looking for a back roads Kentucky small town restaurant. I’m pretty sure everyone knows you are from out of town when you walk in. A friendly inviting town you. Make sure you stop by on your way through and try the pie.

I have been here a number of times, the food is decent. Fries are almost always overcooked. As long as one of the older staff is waiting on me, the service is fine and friendly. Unfortunately every one of the young girls who have taken my order and rang me up were cold and borderline rude. Not even a hint of a smile, not even pretending they want to be there, like I was an annoyance. Maybe because I’m an unfamiliar face but that is NO excuse. I don’t think I will be going back. I don’t expect the royal treatment but I also don’t like feeling like I’m unwanted when I’m paying good money. I hope management takes note.

Very good food at reasonable prices. Good service, too. Just what you would expect at a small town restaurant in Kentucky.
