After years of building up a presence with locations inside Giant Supermarkets in the Mechanicsburg area (and one other spot in Carlisle), I see that Taipei Chinese Kitchen has become more ambitious and opened two standalone locations. I haven’t visited the other one, but I imagine it should be similar to this new restaurant.
The establishment feels like an integral part of the Park West “planned community,” right at the entrance off S. Market Street. The menu offers much more than what they serve inside Giant, but the selections are (unfortunately) still limited to the garden variety we see at typical Chinese American takeout joints. Nevertheless, there are quite a few aspects that transcend the stereotypical: the signage appears trendy, and the interior feels current, providing a good vibe. It is absolutely a good idea to consume your takeout orders on premises.
One particular dish on the menu did catch my eye: 辣子雞 (Hot & Spicy Chicken, $13). The Chinese name on the menu led me to expect a well-known, authentic Sichuan dish—you know, the kind where one-third of the plate is dry red chili peppers and the chicken chunks are crispy? Well, my inflated hope absolutely popped when I received my order. I literally went back to ask if they had given me the wrong dish because it looked exactly like Broccoli & Chicken. They reassured me that it was the correct dish, explaining that it was essentially Broccoli & Chicken but simply drizzled with hot chili sauce. They told me “Taipei Hot Chicken” was closer to what I was expecting. Oh well, at least the taste was on point—so long as I treated it as Broccoli with Chicken and added my own Buldak hot sauce.
They offer combo meals during lunch hours between 11 am and 3 pm. Same prices as the regular entrees except you get less of the core dish but with choices of eggroll or soup.
My only incentive to come back is try the “Taipei Hot Chicken” which is new and had not made it to their printed menu.
3.5 stars.

Great new restaurant. Very clean and well laid out seating. Nice outdoor seating area as well. Ordered online for pickup and order was waiting on the counter when I arrived 20 minutes later. Portions are good size and food was very tasty. Dining area is BYOB. Only negative was they didn’t include any sauces.

Ordered the General Tsos tofu with white rice, medium spice. It’s enough for 3 meals and absolutely delicious! Fresh and fast. Would definitely order here again.

Went there for lunch today. The place is small but super cute. The staff were super friendly and very paitent as we decided what we wanted. We order the steamed dumplings, chicken on a stick and chicken and broccoli with white rice. Everything was delicious! I love how everything is made to order right there so I did not mind waiting. We will definitely be back as there are other items we are wanting to try.

This was my second visit to Taipei and, just like the first time, everything I had was simply the best recipe I’ve ever had for each dish. The coconut chicken was the highlight this time, and I can’t praise it enough. It was exactly what you’d want if that dish sounds appealing to you. The chicken fried rice was also exceptional and complimented the coconut chicken very well. The fried wontons were a great appetizer and their dipping sauce was perfect with it. I brought home a large sesame chicken, which I shared with my dad, as well as chicken egg foo young, and the leftover fried wontons and fried rice. Their lo mein, egg rolls and spring rolls which I had last time are also pretty much perfect. I have come to the conclusion that if you want outstanding Chinese (both mainland and Taiwanese) food, friendly service, and a nice atmosphere to enjoy it in, then Taipei is the place to find that in the Harrisburg area.

Nice new little restaurant. Average food, fair prices, great service, friendly staff. We had the spring rolls ,the shrimp egg roll, the chicken and broccoli and the hot chicken. Both came with a healthy portion of white rice. Fried rice choices are also available. I will be going back often to try the other classic dishes available. The fried chicken wings are flavorful and crispy.

Easily the best Chinese food in the greater Harrisburg metro area! The food is always fresh and hot when it comes out…and the wonton soup?? It is the stuff of miracles. Our family favorites include the chicken in a stick appetizer as well as the house made rangoons! But really you can’t miss. It’s all worth ordering (and ordering again).

Can you guys please switch out the oil more often? It used to taste very fresh but the last few times we’ve ordered, its tasted like old unfresh oil. We used to order here weekly but the oil has been tasting very rancid and strongly and like lots of other things have already been fried in it.. Also, would you consider switching to peanut or sunflower oil over soybean since soybean is so bad for you? Thanks

First time here and went for lunch. Ordered scallion pancakes, steamed dumplings and Taiwanese Mein Lo (noodles). Waited a while but the food was cooked to order and came out hot & fresh. Brought half the Mein Lo home with us. Good place with limited seating but most of their custom seemed to be take out. Will definitely visit again.

Small place with maybe 4 tables and some counter seating, but the vibe is modern and manga! Extensive menu, terrific service, and the food is DIVINE.
I had the Taipei Hot Chicken, and it was cooked perfectly, the chicken tender, with tons of peppers and flavor. The portion was so generous, I was able to spread it out over THREE meals – an awesome value for the money! Egg rolls and crab Rangoon were standard and I would guess premade, so I would probably not bother with those next time. But all the soups and entrees tasted homemade, fresh, and were obviously made with high quality ingredients.
Everyone was so accommodating and courteous, the food came out fast, and the bathroom was without a speck of dust. Taipei Chinese Kitchen, which is a family owned and run business, has only been open not even a year, but if they keep up this food quality and service, they will be THE go-to takeout Chinese in the area – and good for them! A++
