*THEY ALLOW SMOKING*
That warning did not appear in any of the few reviews we saw. The only talked about how good and inexpensive the food is. Through some exception, the still allow smoking cigarettes and tobacco indoors.
We walked in and stood by the door. Even in the bright light of day it’s dark and hazy, with a pall of acrid smoke hanging in the air. Several patrons glanced at us, but none of the dozen or so people gathered around one table by the bar gave any evidence of being staff or having any inclination to call out to a staff member. It looks like the place hasn’t changed since the late ’70s, with the angular glass amber ashtrays from that era on every table. We stayed about 30 seconds and could feel the ickiness clinging to us. We bailed. Even outside, we felt stained. They could have had the greatest food in the world, but it would be ruined by the miasma of cigarette smoke.

This place is your small town dive bar from the dark interior adorned with beer and hunting paraphernalia on the walls. It still had the cigarette smell because you’re still allowed to smoke at this establishment, although no one under 18 is allowed. The owner/ bartender was very nice, and the food was great. Sometimes a dive bar is just what you need!!

Excellent service! Great, fair, prices and awesome tasting burgers with perfectly toasted buns! This is in a bar but it is always quiet during dinner hours. Highly recommend!

I wanted to like this place. I figured this being a small town hole in the wall that it would be a sort of “hidden gem” type of establishment with great food. I was WAY off. The woman behind the bar was rude and dismissive from the beginning. I simply asked what kind of beers they had in bottles since for some reason they only had ONE kind on tap. As soon as I asked what beers they had, she was rude. The audacity of me asking such a loaded question, I know! She seemed to profile me as some sort of “not from around here” guy instantly once Bud light clearly wasn’t an option for me. Then there was the food… I chose the cheeseburger which was around $10 with fries. The burger was clearly frozen and tiny. It came with a handful of fries that couldn’t have been any more bland. Not only was the burger of subpar quality and taste even for a middle school cafeteria but you could taste the grease and residue from the “grill”. As someone mentioned before, this wasn’t a portion for an adult. To sum my experience up, the food was overpriced, cheap tasting and gross and the customer service was even worse. Unless you’re literally about to die of hunger, go to Fort Collins or Greeley for a burger instead.

I was passing thru with some friends and looking to find a good spot to get some dinner and a couple beers. Bison Breath was the only place open and it was great! Food was inexpensive (as compared to Denver) and my bacon cheeseburger was simple and delicious. Cold beer, friendly people, good burgers and fries.
Definitely will stop in again if I’m ever in the area

Had a great experience at the Bison Breath!!! Our family stopped in on a Saturday night for some drinks and appetizers. The guys in our group were thrilled to find out they could enjoy a nice cigar with their drinks. The service was amazing! Our bartender was wonderful and very attentive to our table. We met some of the locals whom we had great conversations with and they made us feel very welcome! We visit Ault often, this was our first time stopping in, but it for sure will not be our last! Bison Breath did not disappoint!!!

The place is like walking into a bar from 40 years ago, great food, friendly people, and you can smoke if you want to. I don’t, but I don’t think my rights supersede anyone else’s. If you’re concerned the smoke might bother you, I doubt it will. They have a smoke eater that keeps the place smoke-feee.
I hate to say this part for fear of them running out, but they have the best potato salad that you can get at a restaurant.

Nice little dive bar – coming from northern WI I say dive as a compliment. Really tasty burgers and good drinks at a good price. Only thing to be aware of is they do allow smoking. If that’s not your thing – don’t go or don’t complain.
