What an amazing bakery! Such a hidden gem in Chicago! Greek family owned since 1970’s… From the moment I walked in I was greeted by an amazing lady behind the counter. Very friendly and was very patient to explain what everything was in the display. She even gave us samples of some of the items. They were absolutely delicious! Small store front but full of amazing baked good that will keep you coming back for more. There is plenty of street parking. I was able to pull up right in the front. I do recommend heating up the spinach pies when you get home. I bought the spinach pie, custard pie, vegan cookies, and honey cookies. The vegan cookies were absolutely delicious! Not too sweet and pairs great with tea and coffee! 100% recommend!

This mom-and-pop Greek bakery has been a local gem since 1969. They serve up some truly amazing and authentic Greek pastries. The spinach pie and baklava were both outstanding and surprisingly affordable. The interior is simple and unpretentious but the love and soul poured into their craft shine through in every bite. Places with this kind of uniquely nostalgic charm are quite rare to come by these days.

If you grew up anywhere near this neighborhood like myself, or live there now, you already know this place — and if you didn’t, you just found a hidden gem. In this neighborhood once heavily inhabited by a large Greek population in the 70’s and 80’s, later generations of Greeks know Hellas Pastry Shop as a household name.
This little mom-and-pop Greek pastry shop has been a true community staple for decades, and stepping inside feels like stepping back in time in the best possible way. The smell alone — warm honey, cinnamon, butter — is enough to make your day better before you even order.
Everything tastes homemade because it is homemade. The baklava is perfectly crisp and syrupy without being too sweet, the galaktoboureko is rich and creamy with that delicate flaky top, and the koulourakia and spanakopita (spinach pie) taste like they came straight out of a yiayia’s kitchen. Seriously, you just have to try the spinach pie. You can tell these recipes have been perfected over the decades. I was in there last week to pick up sweets for my mother’s memorial service, and I honestly did not want to leave.
But what really makes this place special is the heart behind it. The owners greet you like family, remember your name, and always slip in an extra cookie or two “just because.” It’s the kind of shop where conversations happen, neighbors run into each other, and traditions are passed down along with the pastries.
In a world full of chains and shortcuts, this bakery is the real deal— authentic, welcoming, and made with love. Supporting them doesn’t just get you amazing desserts, it helps keep a beautiful piece of the neighborhood alive.
Five stars isn’t enough.

Total neighborhood gem. I’m someone who rarely repeats a food spot (it’s Chicago… there’s too much to try and experience!) but this is a *rare* repeat spot. Owner said these spinach pies are better than the ones back in her home country of Greece and I believe her. I also have a major sweet tooth… but crave these savory spinach pies. Also the best baklava in the city and TRY THE ALMOND COOKIE!!!!!!!!! LIFE CHANGING BITE

I drove up to Hellas on a recommendation for the “best baklava in the city” and… they were right! Service was casual and helpful too. I got the standard baklava, rolled baklava, melomakarona (honey cookie), and a chocolate eclair. All of them were phenomenal! Please check this place out and savor their craft.

Fantastic bakery!
We recently received some cookies and spinach pies from this bakery from a friend and everything was so good that we went back the very next day to get even more.
We’ll definitely be coming back soon.

Very rude woman at the counter. She barks at you for what you want and then gives you attitude if you’re unsure about your options. The baklava was given to me ice cold like it had just come out of the fridge. So it’s not fresh nor crispy. Cookies were a bit better but the price point is not justified in my opinion. You can find way better Greek pastries in the city for the same or better price and WAY better customer service than I received. I wont be back.

We have zero Greek bakeries by house so to discover this gem in Lincoln Square was an absolute pleasure. I thought the rolled baklava was the cat’s meow but the chocolate covered baklava was even better! My gosh I hope this place is around forever

Stopped in for sprinkle butter cookies, honey cookies, almond crescent cookies, and an eclair. The sprinkle butter cookies are delicious! The owners are friendly, and the prices are reasonable. I’ll definitely go back.
