Called ahead to ask if the had sweet and sour pompano (one of my faves). They have Snapper Escabeche on the menu, which is prepared the same way (pretty similar to sweet n sour), and also have a dish with pompano (but was craving a sweet n sour type of fried fish). They agreed to make my pompano that way and I asked for the fried rice instead of plain white. It’s basically white rice cooked with garlic and it’s delicious. I wasn’t impressed with the rice as it was made with jar garlic (I 100% prefer fresh garlic), but the taste wasn’t bad and my fried pompano fish with the sweet and sour sauce full of herbs and veggies was more than pleasantly satisfied
Will have to come back and try the crispy pata (my other fave) another day we fly into CT for wife’s medical procedure. All in all great experience!! ‍♂️

Zul is the kind of place that feels like a warm Filipino hug.
Tried the sitaw and kalabasa, homey, comforting dish that tasted like it came straight out of a Lola’s kitchen .Paired it with lechon kawali, I love the lechon sisig and tosilog. ITS A MUST TRY!!
TIP Upgrade your rice to garlic rice. Trust me, plain rice is nice, but garlic rice is the main . The Palabok was ok but maybe ask for extra sauce it was a little bit dry but overall the flavour was authentic.

Finished strong with the halo-halo—highly recommend adding one to your order. I’d maybe go lighter on the beans next time (unless you’re pro-legume), but overall, it’s a colorful, icy party in a cup.
Zul. Highly recommend !

Very friendly and nice staff. Very clean restaurant. Dining room is 6 total chairs, and 3 of 6 chairs and 2 of 3 tables were wobbly or leaning. Food was served hot and fresh, but flavorless, and completely bland. We didn’t finish our food…. left and went to the Thai restaurant across the street. I understand the reviews being good for takeout, service and authenticity, but missed completely on flavor

This was my second visit and for our first time here would have rated this place 5/5. Maybe we visited on an off day but I didn’t enjoy our experience as much the second time around. Came in with my kids, ordered three boba teas (one strawberry and one taro and passion fruit black tea)…my kid’s strawberry milk tea wasn’t sweet at all, my passion fruit tea was too sweet to the point that I couldn’t drink it). They do have a nice selection of Filipino snacks, tried the shrimp chips and the crispy fried chicken skins, both of which were delicious. Ordered the grilled shrimp with rice for my kids to share and the pancit Bihon for me. My order took 40
Minutes, by the time it was ready my kids had finished eating and were ready to go and I had already had some of my kids’ shrimp and rice (which was delicious and quick to arrive) so I ended up taking it to go/ not eating it. The restaurant is literally someone’s house that’s been converted into a restaurant, so you come in order downstairs and then head upstairs and your food is delivered to your table. It is delivered in takeout trays and they bring you foam plates and plastic utensils. We were the only people eating in on Friday around 12:30 but the restaurant seemed to be busy with takeout orders. I thought the food was good, but the service was just ok and the drinks were a miss. I wish someone communicated that it would take 40 minutes for my dish because I would just have ordered something else from the menu in that case. I feel like I wasted $70 on a lunch and ended up sharing a few pieces of shrimp with my kids, not ideal! I would visit again because I think the food is good but probably just get takeout!

Absolute Gem. This was completely off our radar as we were coming through lower Connecticut. We stopped in looking for a quick(er) bite. NO idea we would be getting some top notch Filipino food. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and our food came out pretty quickly. We got the eggrolls (which are huge and delicious), squid balls (very tasty) as well as the BBQ chicken. This chicken was juicy, tender, and had great flavor. Thoroughly enjoyed every single bite. Highly recommend, will come back if we are ever in the area again!

We brought a large party in for the dinner experience in house. As such Gladys and her staff, were overly attentive. All of our meals were delicious the chicken and pork barbecue, the lumpiag, all clean delicious food. Next time, we use our QRC code and take out. Good luck to the team for New Haven expansion!

Having moved from my mom’s house for a new job after graduating college this past May, I’ve been yearning for a taste of my mom’s Filipino cooking. After typing “Sinigang” into Google maps (my favorite dish), I found that this establishment was only 20 minutes away from my new home.

Let me tell you, the cooking at Zul Cafe and Grill is up to par with my mom’s cooking (of course nothing can ever beat mom’s cooking, right?)

My Filipino taste buds are very happy that this place exists. The hot food is great, there’s a variety of snack options to purchase, and the staff is very friendly. I even chatted with the owners for a while during my first visit here and you can tell they are dedicated to their business.

They’ve earned my regular patronage, as I’m sure they will earn yours. I highly recommend visiting!

This place has the best/most affordable bubble tea here in Norwalk. I really hope they add more flavors!! I order bubble tea and the Pork BBQ Meal (which I strongly recommend) at least once a week if not more. This place also should have doordash or do some sort of delivery so people can order easily/frequently. That’s the only downside. The food is also good, cheap and affordable. It’s about $9 for a Pork BBQ Meal and usually the other meals here are at or around that price. The cassava/yucca cake here is very good as well as worth a try along with the Lumpiang Shanghai which are like spring rolls but filled with meat that come with a sweet chili sauce on the side.

It’s a great place to get your Filipino food cravings satisfied. They offer staple dishes such as Pork BBQ, Kawali, Pansit, and even Bangus Sisig and Chicken inasal (I’m impressed). The portions are generous and pricing is reasonable. The place doesn’t offer family-style serving as Filipino restaurants normally do, but dishes are packaged and individually portioned at your convenvience. While I usually try and go as native as i can at these restos, like order kinilaw, pata, chicharong bulaklak, garlic rice, vinegar sauce with garlic and chillies, Zul’s selection is more conservative. Either way, today’s lunch hit close to home and im happy i dont need to to NY state to get Filipino food. I shared my experience with a friend and he’s literally ordering from Zul as we speak.
