Me and 5 of my friends wanted hibachi so we went to Kobe Japanese Steakhouse. Some of my friends didn’t want to go in because of how the exterior building appeared. We convinced everyone to get on board and we were glad we did! The food and show was excellent and very well priced compared to other fancy hibachi places. I would definitely go back! The moral of the story as one other reviewer mentioned is “never judge a book by its cover.”

This is one of the best restaurants around Oak Island. I have never had a bad experience at Kobe. The family that owns it is very friendly and welcoming. They are also the only restaurant in the area open past 9pm. I would recommend to everyone! Just keep in mind that it is run by a family and they do not have a large staff, so if you go while they are busy it may be a little longer of a wait, but it is always worth it 🙂

This place was great: the food, the location, the price.
We had the sea food pot sticker appetizer, Hawaii roll, spicy scallop hand roll, spicy tuna roll (my favorite!), spider roll, snapper and tuna sashimi and California roll (we were with someone who was unsure of raw sushi so we got this roll as a safety net, but she didn’t end up eating much because she liked everything else so much). Everything was great!
It is located right on the island which made it easy to get to since we were renting a house. It’s disguised as a hole in the wall but don’t let it fool you!
I can’t believe we had all that food and the price was so low! We will definitely go back each year we’re here on vacation.

Based on all the good reviews here, I’m surprised that we had such bad food. Maybe it was just a fluke… We were looking for somewhere to eat after 9, and this was the only place we saw that was still open so we gave it a shot. My husband and I shared steak and salmon hibachi. First, I asked if the salmon was fresh. The server didn’t understand, so I asked “was the salmon caught here?” to which she said yes. The fish didn’t taste very good at all. It was fairly dry and tasted way fishier than it should have. I’m not an expert, but I don’t think it was fresh caught. The sauce and veggies that came with it were very good though.
Second- and the main reason I left very unhappy- was the fried rice they brought with dinner. We weren’t offered any steamed rice and the fried rice they brought us…you know the way a dish rag smells after its been used for a couple days? That dirty water smell? That’s how the rice tasted. I’m not a picky eater at all, and the rice was completely inedible. Very gross.
So maybe we just happened to hit it on a very “off” night, but I won’t be trying it again. We spent $50 for two people (and we drank water) and afterwards, I was wishing we had just gone to Taco Bell. Very disappointed.

My wife and I ate at Kobe this evening and it was awesome. The waitress was so sweet and cheerful, the food was great, my wife had sushi and she said it was on point. We would highly recommend this to everyone! 🙂

i went to Kobe couple weeks ago…ordered some sushi and the staffs recomended us one roll called the”Golden Dragon”….it was awesome…just about everyone liked it…some of my friends got hibachi and they were very tasty….the building might not look as cool as the other restaurants on oak island but the interior is definitely beautiful!! will come back soon….i strongly suggest everybody to experience the nice food,atomsphere and service

Worst Japanese food I’ve ever had and the most expensive. Fried rice? No. Shrimp sauce? No. Vegetables with your teriyaki chicken? Nope. Just white rice with sliced chicken with a nasty sauce poured over the top and one piece of uncooked broccoli. Seriously disappointing.
