The food was on another level, super fresh local ingredients, family recipes made with recognition of the past and an eye towards the future. The vibe in the restaurant is top-notch and the neighborhood is so chill and beautiful. Sat outside and met so many friendly people on the street, and the staff was really gracious. The butternut squash chorizo brussels sprout with preserved lemon dish was banging, enchiladas mole poblano and Chilaquiles with christmas sauce and pecan flan were all so good

The establishment, while compact, successfully evokes the ambiance of a traditional Mexican rancho, reminiscent of similar dining experiences in local pueblos. The cuisine presents authentic flavors, including homemade mole and tortillas. The meat dishes are expertly prepared, showcasing a variety of well-balanced seasonings. Despite its less-than-ideal location, a visit is highly recommended.

Amazing hole in the wall place in LA. Been away from LA for quite some time and was craving some authentic Mexican food. This place did not disappoint. The service (esp. Anthony) was top notch and their recommendations were on point. Amazing food (esp. the chilaquiles) that hit all the right spots & satisfied my craving. Strongly recommend!

Friendly service. We sat outside even though we arrived a lil after 10am. Plus, we waited and decided to sit outside because we were hungry. The food was flavorful and hot. It came to us in a timely manner.

Came here for lunch after taking our doggo to the vet. The food was delicious!! All the ingredients tasted fresh. This is a family owned, scratch kitchen restaurant. On the day we came we were served by a really kind guy who was working with his brother and nephew that day. He had lots of good recommendations and even made a special version of the chilaquiles for us. We also got the huaraches azul with egg which was AMAZING. Highly recommend!

Honestly, the best Mexican I have ever had (and my mom is an excellent cook).

My friend and I were there for dinner before we went to the opera mid-February. Leo took care of us and fed us well. Everything was delicious. We even had a bit of time with Leo and he told us about his cooking experience and how he ended up opening his own place with his family. He shared how he came to better his recipes. He’s very humble and yet so driven by his ambition of bettering his craft. He has our respect. If you are wondering if you should go and give it a try, hesitate no more.

We had the chicken mole enchiladas that were served with crunchy potatoes and beans. Foodie tip: dip the crunchy potatoes in that made from scratch mole so amazing! My friend had the veggie huarache, which Leo prepared for her dietary preferences. She loved it. Also, we pre-gamed our dinner with an order of cauliflower potato tacos. They were so good! Everything that was served looked so pretty and tantalizing. Also, I had the flan with the spice toasted pecans and cream. I was in heaven. I so want Tenampal to get recognized but I don’t want it to be so full I have to wait in line to eat . Anyway, this restaurant deserves to be known and appreciated. Hope you enjoyed my review and have convinced you to give it a try. You’re missing out if you don’t.
And Leo, thank you. We enjoyed your food and the conversation We’re looking forward to our next visit with you to eat more of your scrumptious food and to chat some more about your experiences and recipes.

Showed up Saturday around 11am. The chicken milanesa sandwich was fire. The server insisted I try this (nodded “no” after he pitched the sandwich and I said I wanted to try the enchiladas cause they were recommended). Glad I was… forced lol cause I wasn’t disappointed and apparently they switch up the menu periodically. We also ordered a veggie burrito which was very solid. It was toasted nicely once wrapped and all the ingredients stayed in the burrito. Win! 4 stars for atmosphere but they’re doing what they can’t with the limited space they’re working with. Will be back to try the enchiladas…. Hopefully

Great flavors. Not necessarily what I would consider traditional Mexican, more of a fusion vibe. The sweet potato brussel sprout chorizo appetizer had lots of flavor. The mole was unique and well flavored. Chilaquiles had lots of spices but not necessarily hot. Very unique dishes, definitely worth a try.

This is one hell of a restaurant! The waiter came out and gave us the disclaimer that our 7 person party will take some time on account of it all being made to order . It wasn’t even that long but well worth the wait. I had the most amazing iced cafe de olla and
the bean dip and potatoes for appetizers, delicious!!! I had the combo mole and green chilaquiles, amazing. The chiles were hot and really flavorful, not just hot. They specialize in Matcha chile,
Don’t wait, run!!!
