The ambiance at Friar Tuck’s strikes a perfect balance between laid-back and lively. With its cozy medieval-inspired décor, warm lighting, and inviting atmosphere, it felt like a hidden gem amidst the tourist crowds. Whether you’re just stopping in for drinks or looking for a full meal, it’s the kind of spot you’ll want to return to. With so many places in Mystic packed or booked solid, this place not only saved our night—it made it.
The food at Friar Tuck’s Tavern was just as impressive as the service and ambiance. Everything we ordered was flavorful and well-prepared, but the standout dish by far was the mussels. They were incredibly fresh, cooked to perfection, and served in a rich, savory broth that we couldn’t stop dipping our bread into. It’s clear the kitchen takes pride in using quality ingredients and bold flavors. If you visit, I highly recommend the mussels—you won’t be disappointed.
The food was absolutely delicious! It came out quick, and did not disappoint, at all! We got the Calamari, Fish & Chips, and the Mac & Cheese covered with Pulled Pork. We inhaled the Calamari! Likely the best we have ever had (seriously!). The Fish had a great flavor to the breading, and Fish itself was very moist and tender! The Mac & Cheese was very cheesy, and pulled pork was so very good! We also got 3 beers each. They use BeerMenus.com as their tap list. They don’t have a physical copy, and unfortunately, the site was down while we were there. But, I told the bartender, who was also awesome (very attentive and social), what kind of beer we liked, and he delivered great choices! They have a good selection of beer on tap, too!
Bottom line is, we loved this place! Can’t wait to come back! We are not from the area, but this has been marked as a “return to” place, for us!
The best thing we ate was the BBQ pulled pork mac and cheese. It was absolutely delicious; the pork was so tasty and the combination of the creamy cheese sauce with the BBQ sauce was delightful. The Bavarian pretzels are a perfect portion for sharing with your table and the cheese dipping sauce was excellent. The kids menu had standard options and nice portions.
The place was hopping on a Thursday evening and had such a fun vibe with the bartenders interacting personably with customers.
Nick is the best! He truly loves cooking and food. His recommendations were everything!
Highly recommend ❤️
There were muscles, cheese curds, Bavarian pretzels, pork belly, Mac n cheese, pulled pork, shepherds pie, and drinks!
Everything was yum !
The drinks:
Peach Old Fashion (whiskey)
The Painkiller (coconut rum slushie!)
Pink Bubbles (vodka)
Our server was Pamela and she was quite fun!
We spent about $50 pp including tax and a great tip.
Live music, great service, great service.
It’s a small place but you feel so welcome. We walked in and the bartender instantly signalled to the owner/manager that we had walked in. We got welcomed and told the wait for a table. As it so happened, a spot opened up on the bar, so we sat there.
Our bartender, Chris was great. He made excellent drinks and had great food recommendations. We had the calamari to start and it was lovely. Had spicy peppers on it for an extra kick. For the mains, we had the hotpot and Shepherd’s pie. If you like lamb, both are divine. Ended the might with the bread pudding. My only regret is that we shared one – it’s so good!
Well worth a visit (plus they have an Arsenal flag in the ceiling )
The fish and chips are excellent and if you want even more “comfort” food, we recommend the huge bowl of house mac-n-cheese topped with pulled pork and a bit of barbecue sauce- OUTSTANDING. Finally- our terrific server was Aiden. He made the experience go great. Staying in touch with us without being intrusive to our quiet spot! Nice job, made for a great late lunch!
