Boatyard is a fish and seafood restaurant set inside bustling street food market HEIST. It serves the best local and sustainable seafood alongside plant-based specials and surf ‘n’ turf steaks, with the range changing daily depending on the seasons and the seas. The food is accompanied by an extensive list of organic, biodynamic and natural wines chosen for their sense of place, with a focus on coastal, seaside wines as well as a few inland heroes that are perfect pairings for the fish dishes.
Book a table online, or grab a seat at the counter in front of the open kitchen – probably the best seats in the house! The restaurant is open Tuesday-Sunday.

GLUTEN FREE RECOMMENDATION. Most dishes are gluten free including desserts! It’s understated as they don’t indicate on the board but do ask – the waiter and chef are on top of it. The starters especially are really inventive and all the ones we tried so far are absolutely delicious. Can’t recommend it enough.

Predominately fish but excellent meat roast too, on a Sunday. Two small dishes are sufficient, I had the top two shown on the menu, both outstanding. Cherry and almond tart delicious. Three leg ale well kept, staff attentive and very pleasant. Lovely place, lovely daily lights and good vibes.

One of the best seafood restaurants that we have experienced in UK.
We had oysters as starters followed by smoked salmon and chips and finally had the catch of the day- the trout with prawn and mussells as the main.
The list of the fish changes everyday depending on the catch and season so there is no fixed menu which is always a surprise and an opportunity to go again for new dish.
To end, we had waffle with chocolate and ice cream.
All the food dishes were mouthwatery and service was top notch.
The place is expensive to eat but the taste outweighs the price.
We asked not to include any alcohol in our dishes and they happily obliged.

We were lucky enough to get a last minute reservation for a NYE dinner sitting at the counter and it was so much fun watching the chefs prepare all these delicious dishes. The service was excellent, the food was superb. Great wine recommendations going with the food. Last but not least we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. We could not have made a better choice for our NYE in St Leonards. Just awesome, team Boatyard.

The whole meal was a delight. Chose (with difficulty – it all looked great) plain old fish and chips, only to get the best haddock and chips I’ve had for years, possibly ever. Big thank you to Robbie and James, who were friendly, helpful, knew all about the food and the menu, and made us so very welcome. Can’t wait to go back – need to explore the rest of the menu, and enjoy the atmosphere again soon.

Small plates special event so I was able to have 2 dishes at a good price. Tight wine list but diverse.

Genuinly blown away by the quality of the food I had here today. The balance of flavours, the plating, the perfectly balanced menu blew me away, so reasonably priced and such a great vibe. A true hidden gem. And there selection of natural wines categorised by the sea they came from was inspired and curated to a tee. The pork cheek was one to my favourite meals or the year, and the eel was outrageous, and this comes from a human who spend all my money of good food….. couldn’t recommend high enough…

Absolutely delectable seafood, extensive wine selection and knowledgeable, friendly staff – a winning combination! Perfect oysters, the sriracha tempura oyster is definitely worth a try too. The fried sea bass fillet (with peas and grilled baby potatoes) were faultless, as were the plump crevettes in garlic herby oil mopped up with malted sourdough. Exactly what you want from moules marinière. Tastefully decorated and super relaxed atmosphere. Altogether on the pricier side, but worth it for the quality!

St Leonard’s has plenty of places where you can get a fine meal but this place is beyond good. Beautiful ingredients creatively cooked and served, impeccable front of house service, an amazing wine list, and great surroundings. Always order the fish, that’s my advice, it’s as well cooked and prepared as you could ever wish for. Tempura oysters? Out of this world. I’d eat here every day if I could.
